Let the bad guys do all the smoking. They'll either die by our hands, or die by cancer. Whichever is faster in the storyline. /joke
But seriously no thanks.
Please show support for chocobo boots to be added -> http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/323512-Suggestion-for-an-item-to-be-added-to-gold-saucer-Chocobo-Boots
Unhappy with how they implemented Mahjong? -> http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/381358-Mahjong-is-the-most-depressing-mini-game-you-ve-added-to-XIV
For those that are against the emote what if it was mogstation only one? As someone else mentioned.
No we don't need an emote for that.
What I was touching on in my meaning, is some posters say "Oh we can't have an emote for smoking because it's bad, and we shouldn't see it" yet there are NPCs drinking ... and isn't drinking bad? Sure can be. I don't get it why it's okay to see NPCs do it, but good lord in heaven, if my pixelated character does it, the world is going to Zodiark and THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!!
Just seems silly and double standard-y to me. This is a Teen rated game, and by ESRB standards in games, by this article from 2007:
So that's interesting.Inspired by the Motion Picture Association of America's decision that tobacco use will have a much greater effect on a film's rating, Curmudgeon Gamer has done its own mini-investigation into how tobacco references have affected a game's rating.
According to statistics culled from the ESRB's website, only 3 out of 141 games with a tobacco descriptor ultimately earned an M rating, with the rest earning E (29 games), E10+ (18 games) or T (91) ratings. No Early Childhood-rated games have any substance references. The ESRB process uses "specially trained game raters" to decide the rating.
Though many can argue that these statistics do not count for the extent or realism of tobacco usage (e.g. Calling All Cars received an E but still has an "Alcohol and Tobacco Reference" descriptor), it should be noted that according to MPAA CEO Dan Glickman, 75% of films with "even a fleeting glimpse of smoking" received an R rating. Should games, the beacon of controversy they can be, hold themselves to similar standards?

How? The person was wondering why people aren't bothered about all these other themes being in the game so I pointed out that this thread is not about general themes, but about making an emote usable for players. If you think r--e is an extreme thing to bring up, take it up with AngelCheese77.
Because just like that other emote you wouldn't want in the game, vices are not associated with playable characters in this game (the Warrior of Light). You can't make yourself fat, use drugs, gamble with gil or assault civilians. Story characters can do all of those things. Player characters can't even emote being drunk. I posted a picture of an drunken NPC, and it's quite a different emote from /toast.

Being fat is a vice now? Also the machinist questline literally has you shooting your gun at civilians in the middle of Ishgard. That's just one example. How? I love these forums. We've gone from
"I think it'd be neat if I could do a smoking emote with my character"
to
"Do you need a raping emote too?"
yes there is a hell of a lot of context missing between those two but damn. If you'd asked me what I expected to be on page 16 of an emote request thread I don't think a discussion involving rape in any form would have been my answer.
personally a pipe smoking or cigar chomping idle emote would open some neat character depth visually.
WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?
I see you've moved on from personal attacks to semantic arguments. Overeating is a vice which leads to obesity. Just because Eulmorans are doing it doesn't mean the Warrior of Light does, because those are different characters.

Please explain how it's far more disgusting. Both are drugs, both kill people. And actually smoking is not just tobacco.
If you wanna talk about disgusting, the WoL apparently has to be forced to wash at all.
That's not a semantic argument, lmao and when did i personally attack you? Also, I can remember two regular Eulmoreans who have the larger model Dulia-Chai and a random npc who wanders the town who you can't interact with. Nothing about them would suggest they over eat but their size, and people can be naturally heavy without overeating.
Vauthry you could make that argument for, i guess. But he's like 12 feet tall and clearly augmented in other ways.
