That's because you didn't pray RNGesus enough. He don't care about the efforts made, like when you are the one carrying an entire raid and gets nothing at the end, while all the players who were dying again and again gets all the drops. Even with the respawn timer at 90%, you still have one chance out of ten to pop nothing. I have seen this with quite a few Ixtab (300 ronka mobs to kill).

That being said you did answer your question yourself by saying "if you want to keep them rare, fine". They wouldn't be rare anymore if they were spawning every hour to fit with your sleeping/school/work hours, do they ? XD
