People who tank the market by undercutting by a large amount when it was selling fine before bother me more than someone undercutting by a single gil. You know, like all the bots out there that SE can't do a thing about.

I undercut by hundreds or thousands depending on the item. I deliberately crash the market for a while just to deny people their 1 gil undercuts on purpose.
You're just selling yourself short and crashing the market, but ok. You do you.
Even undercutting by one gil is equally ineffective. Market tax is a thing and the seller can actually put something up a bit higher than the lowest price knowing that an equally aware buyer in the respective city will actually pay less. This is especially true on high ticket items.
IOW, your item being in top means very little and shows you don't know how to 'MB bro'.
It doesn't really bother me how much people undercut. Generally I undercut by a significant amount because I'm impatient and want my money fast lol, so I don't usually mind if someone buys it up to resell themselves at a higher price. But it doesn't bother me when people undercut by 1 gil. It just makes sense. You want your item to be the lowest on the board so it sells, and 1 gil is all you need to beat the other price by. And it's not like people are going to just 'wait their turn' to sell something, that would be silly, so of course people are usually going to undercut, with maybe some exceptions like a super rare item someone is cutting themselves short for so you play the long game. I don't mind if people undercut me by 1 gil and when I'm shopping I'm going for the cheapest deal regardless of undercut amt.
You now pay a tax no matter what city state you buy in, even if it's the same as the seller, so there is no benefit from buying the one below the top unless you just don't like the guy on the top. Also, "buyer" and "aware" are two things that do not go together very often. You're just selling yourself short and crashing the market, but ok. You do you.

This is pretty much my philosophy. My biggest frustration is people pricing some items far above what people are willing to pay. They seem to equate any type of rarity to high value and if you watch the MB you'll eventually see people crash it until they desperately find a selling point, then rinse and repeat, lol.I price based on what I feel the item is worth to me. If the current low price seems reasonable, I'm going to price match. If it seems too low based on past experience I'll price mine higher and wait a little longer for the higher profit, or I'll not list that item and switch to something else. If the current low price seems too high, I'll price my item lower to what I feel is reasonable.
Undercut me for 1 gil or 1000 gil. I don't care. Mine will still sell if I've set a reasonable price and there is demand. If my item isn't selling, it's more likely because I misjudged the market than because you undercut me.

I tend to just buy whatever the thing is at the lowest cost.
Someone who did know how to "MB" (not just in this game, but also irl) would know that being listed first is indeed very valuable, and is a privilege many storefronts actually charge sellers extra for because, unlike you, they know the value it has.IOW, your item being in top means very little and shows you don't know how to 'MB bro'.
Yep. Being first is usually key to making a good quick profit off the MB. Depending on the items I will let them sit awhile, but if its something worth a nice chunk of change then I will update it pretty regularly to keep it at or near the top of the list.
