Wanting "actual healing" may be hyperbolic, but it is nothing so new that you wouldn't know its meaning. I'm not sure why you're trying to shove semantics down her throat over what is effectively this game's best known meme.
I'm not sure what your point is when I simply said not to exaggerate. If you know the meaning of what she said, then what I said simply clarifies it. That you thought to try to force the issue is baffling if you think people know the meaning. If semantics doesn't matter, then let it go. But when people make it a point to complain about something, I'd rather they don't exaggerate and play with words and expect people to know what they mean.

Major leader figures dying, staying dead and being replaced by a successor who may very well cause strife for the people that they're leading.

I had to chuckle at Duty Finder XIV for leveling because I feel sometimes the same. Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate the concept of keeping old dungeons, trials and whatnot busy (some more, some less) but the stark contrast to the pitiful xp sidequests grant -- around 1% more or less -- made me facepalm figuratively when leveling my other character, especially if you don't enjoy running dungeons over and over and over and over and over again (outside of lvling Trusts if at all).

Classic and TBC mostly, when not only were dungeons still "Hard" (In the sense, that you wouldn't just pull multiple packs of trash and then AoE nuke everything) but they were also experiences.
I have mixed feeling about CC. I love the feeling of being the underdog compared to mobs and needing to sneak around a bit or -- even more so -- sabotage enemy movements and offenses during the fight itself to survive.

But I was never really a fan of the "pre-fight" where you stare at the mobs from 30 ft away while they (blindly) stare back at you and you set a trap and time your Mage Poly and Shaman Hex to the same moment just to start the actual combat.

My favorite dungeoning in WoW was probably doing minimally geared Cataclysm Heroics, but it was for nearly every reason except opening CC.

I like the voice acting for every single NPC in Guild Wars 2. Even though it was the same voice actors it kept me interested instead of reading a wall of text. Each NPC id talked to said something.

Also the side quest and the war zones of Guild Wars 2 were amazing. Something FF14 really lacks.

I'm just going to pretend you didn't ignore my warlock on twin cc duty you heathen! The hard cc requirement was probably my favorite as it always gave me something to do other than blindly press keys with the weight of my drool. I left because that style of play was mostly removed and the lore wasn't enough to save my interest. To each their own of course

I just ended up mentioning Shaman because there was a decent chance you'd have one on Resto if not Elem even if one made the mistake of taking Warrior DPS or Feral instead of the de facto CC overlord.

And again, I love having that something extra, but I like it to be in the fight itself rather than just set-up to the fight. Kiting around Frost/Tar traps and timely stuns enhance the experience to me in ways that Sap X Freeze Square Sheep Moon do not.

(In such cases I could argue that Fear, for instance, whether via its namesake spell or Psychic Scream or whatnot is a really great form of CC in that it's got some risk to it and greater in-combat value than the more standard incapacitating CC types (Gouge/Sap/Hex/Hibernate/Poly/Freezing/etc./etc.).)

You've essentially answered a rather common opinion in the sense of "I'd rather healing require a greater amount of my actual uptime and include more means of playflow involvement beyond merely minimizing my GCD heals cast" with "Doesn't matter; anything that heals is still technically a healer (and so your opinion is absurd)".

There are hundreds of pages of post on this exact subject, many of them using that same exact term -- "Green DPS". It's precisely because I think people know the meaning of the term that I found it disingenuous to dismiss the comment on semantics (that healers still produce some amount of HP and therefore are not, say, "what feels, effectively, like DPS with additional healing abilities" [Green DPS]).

    Let me be clear then:

I would like to see additional playflow mechanics involved in my healing such that I feel I spend more of my uptime preparing deliberately for concerted interactions between my skills, ideally with a sense of gambling against expected timings (which requires some doubt or chance insofar as when damage will arrive and for that damage to be in amounts I cannot easily make up without making appropriate decisions) and deep decision-making. This is likely antithetical to XIV, however, for reasons that have already been discussed in countless prior threads.

So why do I mention it?

Because that's the point of this thread. It's something I'd like to see that would unfortunately be utterly anathema to XIV.

While pre-fight CC is thematically and lorewise not particularly elegant a solution, especially once they made the change for said pre-combat CC's to no longer cause aggro so mobs have some Skyrim Syndrome standing around and being all like "Oh look, Joe just turned into a Sheep. Typical Joe, always turning into farmyard animals..."

It did offer a layer of strategy beyond rolling your face across the AoE's on your keyboard. Especially as a Tank where you can determine which targets are the most dangerous for you (Most notably during WotLK where you had things like Unholy Deathknight tanks that pooped on magical damage vs things like Warrior and Frost Deathknights that laughed in the face of physical damage)

Of course, if a game was to entertain the idea of a more fluid and dynamic approach to things, such as utilizing shorter duration or soft control effects in combat that could be cool. For example, having mDPS being able to keep silencing a caster while rDPS can cripple a melee damage dealer (With things like Arm/Leg shots) while a Tank can keep stunning a target by bashing them with a shield (Either a physical one in the case of PLD or one made of aether/dark in the case of GNB/DRK), pushing them, tripping them up or otherwise knocking them down etc.

Giving more strategy to trash pulls than just pressing your 1-2 AoE skills harder... (Also, increasing potential Raid encounter design as you could then start having adds that different class archetypes need to focus on in order to chain their CC)

But so far, no game has really done that. People think trash is boring so devs make trash into mindless cleave dummies, which makes them boring. (Or if you look at FFXIV's raids, just deletes trash outright)

Hah, the CC that was more or less REQUIRED for Everquest. Mass pulls were rarely done and required heavily specialized groups.

That'd never fly here in FFXIV
