Joking aside a few individuals in this thread need to understand that certain choices or preferences are not always rooted in bigotry, and it is unfair to asume such based off a persons stance as to what they may or may no find appealing to the eye in terms of attire. I do think this suggestion however, implausible got far too much backlash due to people going with an emotional response fueled by this notion that this suggestion is inherently prejudice in nature.

Do you mean this post? (The only reason I can find it quickly is that it's in my own post history, so I can search it from my forum profile page.)

Precisely that post. Thank you very much. I feel it was a pretty good summing up of where each side seemed to be coming from and why it's such a contentious subject.

I definitely appreciate that post, and I totally agree with you, yes, people shouldn't be given the power to make someone's personal expression of a defining characteristic be deleted from existence, especially because it doesn't meet someone's standard (Those dirty pink frogsuits! *is wearing a dirty pink frogsuit <3*).

Yet, if I could just interject (which I'm sure has been brought up, but you know... 136 pages so...), can we all not agree this is a -game-? It is a game. This suggestion is not me asking to delete someone's choice of personal lifestyle. It is not suggesting to reverse both gender attire or key glamour features. I just cannot accept that a game has so much bearing outside of someone's mother, or sister, or son, or dog, or cat, or whatever. This game is for pure leisure. I understand people do see their character as an extension of themselves, and I have not seen -anyone- suggest that those individuals should be limited in their own characters. [EDIT] Just an aside here, I know people care a lot about their characters. I'm certainly not trying to cheapen that and I apologize if I keep sounding demeaning to that sentiment. I'm mainly targetting posts (on both sides) that seem to have a lot of anger, spite, and desperation behind their words. I just want to give those people a big hug and tell them, it's ok! [End EDIT]

I think there's a huge line between wanting to enjoy the game's theme and wanting to erase choice for each individual player.

I guess, I don't believe -personal- / -individual- expression depends on whether I see it or not, and that's really the problem of this argument from where I see it.

This is also -not- real life. Personally, I think it's extremely unhealthy and very dangerous to keep putting real life situations in the game's setting. Of course, it is atrocious to think of discrimination at all, but especially with the examples you provided. I also suffered sexual harassment at my job (Doctor kept thinking it was cute to talk to me like I'm a 12yr old girl and smack my bum whenever he felt like it). However, I do not pull that over into a fictional game (not saying you're doing this, but I have seen some very questionable posts).

Also, everyone keeps acting like this option would just be toggled on -all- the time. I'm positive many people would use it for specific purposes (serious quest dungeons, serious first time raids, just serious story content in general, maybe trying to show your friend the game but they have kids around).

I do agree that there won't be a consensus, b/c you know... the internet lol xD I do think, despite how very intense some back and forths have gone, it's been an exceptionally enlightening thread. While my opinion has not been swayed, I've never seen some many posts in any forum, let alone thread, stating that their opinion has changed (for both sides). I think the debate is really invaluable and I appreciate all the posts made. Except for the long ones.... they just rant and go on forever and are so unfocused - hey did you guys know it's almost March already? Geez where did the time go! ;P

You know, I had a big reply written out, but I deleted it—because as much as I feel the idea of robbing someone of their individuality, forcing them to wear a helmet, or curating the world to your own selfish, petty desires is morally wrong and the height of bigotry and intolerance...

The simple answer is no, it'll never happen, and while people have raised really good points as to why its a bad or good idea; on both sides, I'll give you the real reasons...

1.) Too costly and would require too much time to develop a system to instantaneously hide a person's glamour, place a helmet on their head and adjust it for you client side; as all of this is sent to the server and they've already said they can't do anything extra to character appearance because the data is too bloated as is.

Considering the fact they won't separate horns from the faces of Au Ra among other things—it's just not going to happen because those things are minuscule compared to what is being asked for here.

2.) Mogstation exists, it is a cash shop, it sells non-restricted, freely glamourable items that appear and can be used in game.

I hate to break it to people (I actually don't), but the best form of advertising for a cash shop of any kind is for your players to purchase said items and to wear them. Giving you this option would remove one of Square Enix's main avenues of marketing and advertising Mogstation cosmetics to you and for that reason alone this will never happen.

Not to mention the amount websites, opinion pieces and bad press the game would get for including a button that would quite literally be called a "bigotry" button in news articles related to it. It's not a good idea from a development or financial angle nor would it give them any positive publicity as a result.

People need to stop asking, lighten up and just enjoy the game as it is, not as it could be or as you perceive it should be. They have their vision for the game, everything fits into that and if it didn't, we wouldn't get it. It would do people well to learn to respect that.

The 'bigotry' accusations are getting a tad tiresome at this point. I think the people leaning on that line of discussion need to take a step back and acknowledge that their character is not actually them. Thinking someone's character or outfit looks ridiculous is not a personal attack - it's a dislike of a bunch of pixels.

Just because they don't want to see men in wedding dresses doesn't automatically make them a bigot. For example: I work with a trans person and talk to them almost every day, but I still don't care to see a man in a wedding dress. I think it's tacky and obnoxious.

You didn't bother to read the thread, did you? People who glamour and spend Gil in game or real cash on the Mogstation will continue to do so. Your first point was also explained a few pages back. Not every player would use the filter. Some people don't care, but for the ones who want it, it should be available to them.
