A few days ago, I was in a full party where I was the only sprout (that makes this ... around four times in a row by now) and my anxiety shot up the roof right away because of this. That, and this was my first time doing the dungeon (it was Doma Castle, MSQ). As I always do, I informed the party whether or not this was my first time running the dungeon, then braced myself for the verbal backlash that I had grown accustomed to since the last few times that I've found myself queued up parties where I'm the only newb. Well, you can imagine my relief when these people weren't like those bad apples at all! Several of them even complimented my outfit, and the party leader told me not to sweat it and to just play my role accordingly. They explained the boss mechanics to me, I had a fun time, and I really hope I'll be able to meet them again! My only qualm is I couldn't give all of them player comm --- they left that much of a positive impact on me <333
I'm not a sprout anymore but I always inform the party when I do an instance for the first time. Maybe I'm lucky, but I never got verbal backlash. On the contrary I find that it makes people more indulgent and even sometimes make them chat a bit.
The funny thing is that sometimes just saying "I'm new to this" and "sorry" if you happen to play badly even brings you recs.

I will always be indulgent to someone who says they're new or simply not a very good player. And I don't expect newbies to watch or read guides before every new dungeon or normal raid.

Anyway, I'm glad you got to meet those "good apples" at last

I always feel that informing party members about such a thing is important as well! And thank you, I'm happy about this too! ^-^

This isnt at all surprising to me. I used to make a point to explain mechanics before most boss fights anytime i got a new player message. I play on PC, type fairly fast, and i can typically remember most mechanics to most fights just by looking at the boss(if it isnt catalogued in my head just by the run itself). No big deal. A lot of people would get upset about this. Sometimes it was a guy on an alt who didnt like even minimal wasted time, sometimes it was someone who wanted to try to figure it out for themselves, some people were offended because me telling them how to do a mechanic somehow meant i was telling them they sucked. So instead of just always explaining things, i now wait for someone to ask(or if a fight went poorly but we won anyway, ill offer to explain at the end of the run if they want to hang around for a min). Someone who asks is almost never upset when you explain something.

Of course, wanting to figure these new fights out for myself is why i did them all before dinnertime(east coast) on tuesday.

Thank God. I can't stand people sitting there typing out the whole fight.

And it won't even help because you forget 3/4 of the explanation while fighting.
There is just the need for explaining when someone always dies to a mechanic or a false played mechanic wiped the group.

I might offer advice on bosses if someone asks or says they're new, but not just because I got the new player message from the game. And then I generally only explain one or two most important mechanics for the boss. I assume people are smart enough to do basic AoE avoidance and handle markers without guidance. If there's a wipe I explain how to do that part correctly. I've yet to have anyone be dissatisfied about my approach.

Problems with stack mechanics in Eden raids:
E1: The person with stack marker runs away from everyone.
E7: The person with said marker tries to double stack with the other stack marker.

...or everyone gather at either one of the marker and leave the second to die alone (sad).

Not a vent or anything I just find the experience funny. lol

I was surprised to find quite a bit of salty players within the first two hours of the patch, demanding people know the mechanics of the new Eden fights. It was very odd to me since it was literally the first two hours of the patch. Like I get some people sped through them, but let people have a moment to figure them out on their own.

Of course, I am not one to swat away advice either. If someone is like to move here or don't stack there, I am not going to ignore it and die jus to stroke my own ego.

Yeah I can see where you're coming from. I'm just appreciative when someone gives out some tips before a boss fight. I don't want them to spell out the entire fight because that would be annoying. But just some quick tips about some of the major mechanics is very helpful. But I don't mind if we jump right in, either.

I watch videos for me. Because I don't want to screw up so badly I become a burden to the group, but to each their own. When I'm running with trusts I just learn things on my own. It's a more relaxing environment and my mistakes aren't going to impact anyone else. Like I said in my previous posts, I'm an average player at best.

Here's a good example of what I'm talking about. Last night I did E6 for the first time. During the phase where both bosses were on the platform and there was a ton of AOE and a lot of stuff going on, everyone died except me and one of the tanks. I was able to raise both healers (RDMs for the win!), and then, somehow everyone was alive again? I don't know how that happened. Some sort of mass rez? Whatever it was, it was really cool and we were able to down the bosses eventually.

Some people were emoting at me like bump fists and stuff like that. And one of the healers gave me props for the rez. My response?

No problem! I watched a video.
