As for cash shop items: It may just be me, but I buy them solely for me and my entertainment.

You only have that perspective because of how you grew up, and the values you have. He consider it normal to him. In fact, it is still a big part of the culture in the area I am in. Do you see my point? It is very normal for the people I am around to care more so about fashion. It just part of culture. It is not something we need to think about or even feel it is wrong. So in a mmo that heavily has a social element. I find it normal that people want to look good for themselves and for others to see them.

I do understand that, but at the same time it's no different in the game. Those who care about glamours would still be able to experience them while those who don't would get to have their own experience.

Because in a mmo. How others see you plays a big part of the game.

Yes and no. This game in particular plays similar to a single player RPG. You are the sole focus of the story and as such other players are irrelevant. It's only in the social aspect that appearance plays a part to some people.

THe msq is written with one WOL in mind, sure, but the game itself is still a MMO with a community/multiplayer aspect. Even with trusts you can't get through all of the msq without partying with other players in trials, and of course duties beyond the msq are all multiplayer. The story may be written like a single player game but it's still very much a MMO, not just a single player game with a tacked on multiplayer mode or something.

It doesn't change the fact that some people just don't care how others choose to present themselves or may be annoyed by such presentations due to ruining the mood set by the game with absurd glamours.

and they got no stance to stand on. Because the story itself has said elements, so the lore of the game itself shows things like this. You can't scream immersion or the mood of a game when the game IS that mood.

And this is probably where the split lays.

I play this game for the social aspect of it. I love the challenge of raiding and clearing content both with my usual crowd and with new people too. The story is somewhere between a mere roadblock and a fun diversion for me. If it didn't exist I wouldn't particularly care. If the raiding scene didn't exist, I wouldn't be here.

Thus that's why I'm so against anything that further diminishes the social side of this game in any way in my eyes. Even the simple removal of the need to go to the raid entrance to enter was a bad decision. The chatter, banter and activity outside was always good fun and I still miss it. Through that I used to know regularly chatter with near enough every raid healer on the server. Now I barely speak to all of them within my own FC as everyone's spread out and hidden away.

You might only view this as a small toggle switch, but I view it as yet another small nail in the coffin lid of this game's community, they've been building up for a few years now.

Different people play for different reasons as others have already said. I do like some of the social aspects of the game myself, but I'm here purely to experience the story. The developers have a fine line to walk when it comes this game: on the one hand they want to present it as a traditional Final Fantasy game, while on the other they made it an MMO which isn't part of that tradition. I feel for them when situations like this come up.
