Why is it completely fine to be able to mute these people yet when someone wants to have an option for their screen to change glamour its compared to a horrible time in human history? I mean people can just not listen to the music right?
1 Muting music doesn't make the client play a different song for you. What OP is asking for is the client to display different clothing.

2 Bard music can interfere with the game's actual music by clashing with it and sometimes making it difficult to even hear. A player's glam can't interfere with how another character or npc looks unless they literally stand on top of them. The mere act of having a glam on its own doesn't change how another player or npc looks.

3 If you're listening to audio that is playing from a different source (youtube/itunes/etc) the game's music and sound effects can interfere with how that sounds, or even your ability to hear it. A player's glam, for obvious reasons, cannot interfere with how something else displays in another piece of software.

So yea comparing being able to mute sounds with removing other players glams is a false equivalence.

Sure, having to heal a female Miqo’te DRK in a maid outfit is infuriating imo, and this would help get rid of situations like that that invole ridiculous and impractical glamours.

And inb4 I get anyone taking about previous FF characters outfits and how they are ridiculous, yeah, people like Jecht, Vaan, and Ultimecia had pretty crazy outfits, but it’s not nearly as ludicrous as a tank in a dress/maid outfit/bikini.

How about a remote-controlled plush toy that shouts orders to a oversized robot moogle?

I don't know why people keep bringing up characters from the other games in this. This is Final Fantasy XIV, not VII, VII, IX, or any other. That means this game has its own aesthetic for what's expected to appear.

    Per the OP themselves

Tanks should wear plate, healers should wear robes, and no one should be in a fight seriously wearing carbuncle slippers and lingerie.

I don't propose a limit to glamour, I just want to be able to turn off other players glamours displaying on my client. That way they can "Express" themselves all they want, and I don't have to suffer another topless male in a thong.

And in this game, they put in maid outfits and bikinis. If it wasn't intended they wouldn't let you glam those items. This is deliberately different from say WoW where they restrict transmogs more so that you can't say, transmog a santa suit outside of their christmas holiday. FFXIV deliberately allows greater freedom, outside of role/job restrictions on battle gear. Ergo, tanking in a maid glam is intended and has the tacit approval of the dev team.

There's a difference between world aesthetics and game aesthetics. In the context of the world you don't see the characters running into battle dressed as maids or in wedding dresses. Only in the context of the game is that possible. So to maintain the aesthetic of the world some people prefer not to see it.

Final Fantasy has a very long history of having outlandish outfits, and a lot are on main characters. The games have never completely taken themselves super seriously, and often push beyond the limits of what looks like practical combat gear. For many players this is part of their appeal.

Not really, people for the change have tried to use the argument to justify their stance. It has been refuted, the person I responded to tried to assert we haven’t seen a ff character as ridiculous as a tank in a maid outfit, enter Cait Sith.

Ryne/Minfillia runs into battle in a long sleeved mini dress as a rogue/ninja as part of the trust system?

I wish she didn't. It's awful. Why has nobody given the kid some actual armor? Light armor even?? Some pants???? Better than fighting in what's basically a nightgown...
