You can opt to see the game the way you wish to. Other people can do as much themselves. Give players the tools to make their own choices and everybody is happy - except those who seemingly think they need to be the centre of attention on a stranger's screen for no discernible reason.
I get that some people really hone in on those sort of things, but I literally go through whenever I start a dungeon and Examine everyone's characters, and even after seeing them I still don't really pay attention to what they're wearing once things start. I honestly don't think it's that hard for people to mind their own business regardless of how perceptive they are. The man in the briefs honestly probably isn't trying to get a rise out of people. If I were to take a wild guess he's probably honestly just a gay man happy to have a male character as sexualized as female characters usually are. This game has a particularly large LGBT and female population compared to other MMOs, partly BECAUSE it allows people like us to express ourselves in ways many of us can't IRL. We're living this fantasy that straight men have been allowed to experience for years. BTW I'm not trying to imply you're a straight man, you might not be, but I do know a lot of the pushback comes from straight men not being catered to explicitly. I can't tell you how many times I've seen some guy make a big deal over a male character's glamour being too girly, or revealing, or whatever. Regardless of what people say, we're not stupid enough to believe that the larger issue here is immersion. There is 100% a reason that these threads always seem to explode around men getting access to traditionally feminine clothing. Some people genuinely are concerned about their immersion, but this never really comes up when the immersion breaking fits gender norms.

I think you're misremembering, it was PvP where they used to be disabled.
