Note: Taking advice from a players alt, is like taking advice from a voice in a dark room. Criticism is a two way street remember that!!

(I don't feel like reading 47 pages so it might have already been said but)
If you don't feel like dealing with other people's choices, don't play a MMORPG.
I rest my case.

Yeah, this is an extremely long topic for a feature that will probably never see the light of day.
That's exactly the reason why I do want an option to hide glamour. If irl some kind of glasses were to come out that lets you see different outfits on everybody, it should be totally fine to wear that because it doesn't harm anyone. Having the option to hide glamours would be like putting on some kind of glasses that sees through the glamour. You're not taking away anything from others, neither are you cencoring them because you don't change their reality in any way.
It's purely your own personal vision and it's possible to have this "technology" because you're playing a game in a fantasy setting.

as HAS been said in the thread before I will repeat: A choice to not have to deal with jarring or undesirable visuals too? Because that is a choice some of us would like that you , by your own rules, would have to deal with.

I certainly DO NOT want to anybody to see me in clothes I DO NOT WEAR nor in game, nor especially irl. Somebody will think it's fun to walk around look at people walking in underwear or naked or in something else and others should be fine with it just because you think it's not harmful? Hell no. I wear clothes I do for being presented in them in society, not for meeting an <kupo!> that will think "hm no I want to see her in another clothing or without clothing at all".
These are people that would want to make it illegal to use a marker to draw mustaches and glasses on pictures of people in a newspaper that is delivered to your house - after it's already delivered and in your house.
There is no reasoning with them. I've already learned that the hard way.

The impasse we have is that they feel the thought of someone out there seeing them not as they've carefully crafted is the worst possible thing, while the supporters feel that being able to enjoy their game as they please is more important. It comes down to personal values and we're very likely never to get anyone to compromise on those. These are people that would want to make it illegal to use a marker to draw mustaches and glasses on pictures of people in a newspaper that is delivered to your house - after it's already delivered and in your house.

however there is merit in further discussing with people who have particular addressable problems or will even present their own solutions such as replacing their characters entirely so that no claim could be made that they are being misrepresented as all identifiable customizations would be hidden. Generic placeholder faces, equipment and hair would solve a lot of the possible objections though I'm sure there will always be some opposition to the idea you could be edited out of someone elses experience.

I'm personally very apathetic towards this kind of a feature. It's not one I'd use anyway, but then again if you asked me anything about the last three people I partied with in Expert I'd not be able to tell you a thing. Their name? I dunno, I mean heck I couldn't even be bothered to remember their jobs off of the top of my head. Their glam? I honestly didn't pay enough attention to remember it in any level of detail. I'll cede that yes, that's just me and maybe there are people out there able to do 100% of their job while also obsessing over the dress code of their peers, I'm not among that elite.
I can see the argument that one's glamour is how one chooses to present oneself, and I can see the argument that one wants to choose whether or not they need to see another player's glamour. Fundamentally, this is an argument over the border of choice rights, which is why I feel like the conversation's just gone in circles a bunch. It's not so simple as saying 'pro-choice' because both sides are 'pro-choice'--pro 'their choice'. At least, as a reader, that's the message I've gleaned from reading both party's stances here.
I may be apathetic towards this whole subject, but the read has been fantastically entertaining. Please continue![]()
