It's time (Option to Hide other players Glamour)

I play melee dps and can't ignore any other melee that is attacking what I am. Would you have me turn my camera away from the monster completely just so I don't have to look upon a frog-suited tank? How am I supposed to ignore them in a cutscene that specifically shows them?

Quite seriously, how close do you feel like you need to put your camera to your character to be able to play melee?

I play a bit of everything and I don't have the camera any closer in for melee than other roles. It's zoomed out so I can see the enemy's marker ring and what's going on around me. If anything, I want to be able to pull it back further.

I'm looking at where I'm standing, watching for AoEs and where the side/back of the marker ring is. I'm not looking at what the tank is doing.

The human brain is fantastic at tuning out details that you aren't looking for while focused on something else. (See: that perception exercise where you're told to focus on the people wearing white and therefore don't notice a black gorilla walk through the group.)

I mean, the only way to do that would be to close my eyes or look away. It's pretty hard for your eyes not to continually catch someone strutting around in a bright yellow chocobo suit.

Can't say ive noticed, at most ill see a frog suit, laugh, and then forget they're there for the rest of the instance

1. That is like saying because you don't like that person on YouTube you think they should not get to post at all just in case you look at them.

2. SE has already made their stance on mods clear, it's already technically "not okay" and we all know where that would go if they actually banned them and any users who they catch using them completely.

3. I see familiar players on my server all the time because this game replicates the phrase "a small world" the way real life does. And apparently wanting my appearance that you don't have to look at to be left alone is conceited.

1. You're creating a false equivalency, nobody is denying your ability to glamour with this just because they don't want to see it on their screen. Me not watching or not liking someone on YouTube has nothing to do with me wanting to keep them from uploading. They're still free to upload as much as they want and I'm free to not watch their content as much as I want. If this feature was implemented it would be the same as ignoring someone on YouTube, their content, in this case your glamour, would still exist. You would still be able to do it any time you wanted to, I would just have the option to ignore it easier.

2. This doesn't alter the fact that they're still doing it and your character is still being seen in a way you don't "approve" of. If that's your only issue then why aren't you making a fuss at Squeenix to crack down more on the modding. Oh wait, I know why, because they're not bringing it up. It would be the same as this feature. As long as nobody brings it up that they're using it nobody would know who's using it.

3. The difference between the real world and a virtual world is that a virtual world is literally a "small world". In the real world you can go days, month, years or even your whole life without seeing the same person more than once and even if you did you probably wouldn't know it unless you knew the person. In an MMO we're all in the same "area" so to speak. We're limited on where we can travel to because we're confined to our server so we have no choice but to see the same people over and over. Add to that the fact that we have our names displayed above our heads is the only way to tell that you're seeing the same person.

You claim to want to be left alone with your glamour options yet get offended at the thought that someone might not want to see it on their display. If anything you're the one trying to dictate what other people are doing.

I stealth-edited while you were writing. But really, I just stop noticing that stuff in battle. It's irrelevant information about something that isn't a threat.

A character such as Thancred is designed in a way that is objectively far less jarring than a character clad in a frog or pig suit. The development team are even on record stating that content such as Hildibrand is locked away in its own little bubble because such things are not everybody's cup of tea. As such, the request to block out such things isn't really that unreasonable.

Let's not forget, World of Warcraft started to rapidly lose subscriptions and relevance right around the same time that it chose to take itself much less seriously than before and replaced subtle jokes and references with entire questing zones based around the plot of certain movies.

I won't speak for anybody else, but I enjoyed WoW right up until that happened in Cataclysm. I'd hate to see FFXIV take the same route - and so far it hasn't, though the ability to block out certain glamours would be an excellent compromise.

So you're telling me to tune it out when there is an obnoxious looking character in the instance, but won't accept someone having a feature that you wouldn't even know when it is utilized.

I'm not saying "tune it out", I'm saying my brain does it automatically - and that's normal, as far as I'm aware.

Presumably if you're looking at the chocobo thinking how much you hate it, instead of accepting that it's there, you can't do that switching off.
