It just a matter of time SE will be forced to introduce this kind of thing into the game as a part of "parental control".
If FFXIV wishes to keep their game current age restriction then they will have to implement it in the future, having a game available for 13+ is a huge deal in Japanese game industry, sooner or later with the game getting so big its going to be under fire of censors.

Nobody cares about someone feelings and freedom of "expression", kids go first as a priority and money that comes with it.

I do think we're going to be seeing more attempts to regulate online activity moving forward, at least in certain countries. Which will almost certainly impact the age rating. In some ways, it's good - in other ways it's bad. Though for a while now a lot of players have been taking far too many liberties by doing things they are not meant to be doing such as making use of mods or using the game as a platform to act out dark and illegal fantasies.

It's actually pretty scary that the development team have had to comment on such things directly on a number of occasions. We've also seen bold moves on their part such as the removal of the chat function in competitive PvP, so I could easily see a feature to block out certain items being implemented client side.

It irritates me like crazy when I go into a dungeon and someone is wearing a maid's outfit. Or is dressed like Aymeric. Or has a REALLY annoying name like Clouds Trife or something. HAVE YOU NO IMAGINATION???? I swear other people (by which I mean most randoms) are the most annoying aspect of this game these days. Yet another reason why I only do content with friends and/or Trusts lately. I think a button you could toggle on and off would be great.

However I also get the 'my self expression' argument. But if your self-expression consists of wearing a maid outfit or calling yourself Clouds Trife, I'm sorry, but you really need to go away and work on your creativity a bit. Yes, I'm being harsh, but I wasn't the one who brought self-expression into the argument. I only want to listen to you express yourself if you have something even vaguely interesting to say

To be fair.. what's interesting to you might be horribly boring to me... so that's kindof oof. I just say give everyone that option and call it a day. That or just learn to block it out. It really isn't that big of a deal. Sides, you're not going to stop people being people.

I don't mind what people wear, sometimes it's fun to see a Hildibrand or fat chocobo tank/heal and the world is full of bikini men / attention girls so I am used to it. But wouldn't mind to have the option though, it doesn't take anything away from anyone. Would be a nice extra perk that some people would benefit from so why not.

We're talking about an mmo with a very large focus on the social and personalized aspects. It is exactly like a park bench in that it's a public space with other people in it and you shouldn't get to decide what you see on another person. It's one thing if whatever you're playing is a completely depersonalized avatar that doesn't represent you and another if it isn't.

On your screen. On my screen, it does.

Okay, then I want the "choice" to be exempt from this toggle, am I limiting your "choices" now because I want to be excluded from something that should not matter to you? Is it limiting your choices that I don't get to appear in your photos?

I've been out of this conversation for a while due to post limits and I come back to the same tired "arguments" from those opposed to this option.

1. This option would not restrict someone's "freedom of expression" in any way. You can still glamour all you want, just some people won't see it. This is like saying that, just because I don't watch someone on YouTube I'm trying to silence them. It's utterly ridiculous.

2. People are modding their client side display all the time to have gear look a specific way without your knowledge. This does not stop them from taking screenshots or streaming and yet no-one is rallying against that for some reason. At least if this was an official implementation then they could add the limitations of no screenshots or streaming if it's that much of a concern. Also, most, if not all, people who do mod their display do it for personal reasons. They're not looking to share their display around, in part because it's against the ToS and could get them banned as well, but the option is still there for them.

3. This game has 15+ million players worldwide, why do you care so much that a percentage of those players don't want to see your glamour? Are you that conceited?

1. That is like saying because you don't like that person on YouTube you think they should not get to post at all just in case you look at them.

2. SE has already made their stance on mods clear, it's already technically "not okay" and we all know where that would go if they actually banned them and any users who they catch using them completely.

3. I see familiar players on my server all the time because this game replicates the phrase "a small world" the way real life does. And apparently wanting my appearance that you don't have to look at to be left alone is conceited.

I couldn't care a single iota about you appearing in any photo of mine. You are not that special. It is your fervor in opposing a measure that would do you zero harm which makes you someone who wishes to limit people's choices. I play melee dps and can't ignore any other melee that is attacking what I am. Would you have me turn my camera away from the monster completely just so I don't have to look upon a frog-suited tank? How am I supposed to ignore them in a cutscene that specifically shows them?

A stray thought on the argument of whether FF characters follow "immersive" job gear or not...

Our party members for this expansion include:
- our primary tank in a leather coat and modern body armour
- our part-time backup tank in wizard robes and sandals
- a healer not wearing robes
- a rogue in a frilly white dress
- a dancer in chainmail and practical boots

It's character style over strict adherence to role-themed gear.

I mean, the only way to do that would be to close my eyes or look away. It's pretty hard for your eyes not to continually catch someone strutting around in a bright yellow chocobo suit.
