I have no idea who you think you're trying to fool OP, We all know the real reason you want this feature. I'd bet all my Gil that this thread wouldn't even exist if they hadn't added the change to the wedding attire to 5.2.

If only all the "you don't get to choose how I look" people knew about graphic mods.
There's lots of people out there putting you in some.. compromising gear.
WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?
The thread itself has been made before and as another poster pointed out, it was a feature back in FFXI. There's many different reasons as to why someone might want a feature such as this to be implemented and I don't think it's a particularly good look for those with a chip upon their shoulders to be trying to force reasons and words into another poster's mouth.
The proposal isn't eroding the option for players to wear what they desire. It's really no different to being able to adjust the number of players visible upon one's screen.
I remember reading about an older game that let you choose to display other players as wearing black cloaks, though I believe this was intended to improve pc performance as opposed to hiding glamours. This request isn't unreasonable at all, FFXI (gasp) has a setting that makes other PCs load in wearing default racial gear for those that want it. If some people don't want to see what they consider ridiculous outfits I don't see the harm in adding an option that makes other characters load in level 1 starter gear or their class's AF or something. Sure some people might not get to see my personal expression but if they turned on that setting I doubt they cared about or would notice the personal flair in the first place. Having this as an -option- isn't a problem.
I don't see the harm in having an option like this.
I really don't like the prospect of that either (and dislike the idea of mods in general for putting people "not on the same page" about what gear looks like), but it's still different to the game officially permitting other players to change how you look.
Was most likely to help for performance given how older MMOs tended to have to cater to both the people with high end PCs and the people who hooked up internet to their toaster.
Functionally no different and you could be at least sure that the game itself was presenting you in a certain way rather than what is actually happening right now where on several peoples screens you are either naked or .. enhanced.
how do you feel about people turning down textures and res? Knowing that you're blurry and chunky on someone elses screen? That none of the effects your skills produce are on their screen?
Why does it matter to you?

I tried to stay out of this, Hells, I tried to stay off this forum in general, but I guess I am a glutton for punishment because here I am again and it's because this comment is absolutely ridiculous. Why is some people's first reaction to a person that doesn't care to see dudes in dresses automatically to assume they "hate the gays" so to speak? It couldn't just be that something like that could be distracting from taking the story seriously could it? No, I guess not, it has to be because they have some deep resentment for gay/trans/ETC people right?
Gamers don't die, we just go AFK

Or you could do what everyone else does and just not care so much about what others are wearing. So now that we have female characters tanking in string bikini's and now men in wedding dresses, it's time to adopt an option a lot of other games have: Hide Glamour. Naturally troglodyte are going to assume it's because of the men in dresses. It's actually because it's breaks the theme and feel of it being a final fantasy game. Tanks should wear plate, healers should wear robes, and no one should be in a fight seriously wearing carbuncle slippers and lingerie.
I don't propose a limit to glamour, I just want to be able to turn off other players glamours displaying on my client. That way they can "Express" themselves all they want, and I don't have to suffer another topless male in a thong.
Well, thankfully no individual poster within this thread speaks on behalf of 'everyone else'. Given that the suggestion doesn't affect anybody but those who toggle it on, it seems to be a bit of a deceptive argument to downplay the desire for such a feature. It isn't as if anyone is going to be aware of who would be making use of it unless told specifically.
