A throwaway event where people voted for the only girl, who is also the only established character, representing the only color present that is a holiday color, who is the only one who actually promotes talking to a girl to find romance.

With everything legitimately wrong with the game, I didn’t think that this would be a thing that spawned multiple threads with pages of rage and conspiracy theories. And yeah, the idea of finding love at work isn’t ideal, but it was established he didn’t have time or know what he wanted and he’s a lancer mercenary in a fantasy setting, not an office worker. Projecting real world professionalism doesn’t really count here. In the end, it doesn’t really matter much anyway since it’s just a very short event in a game that has no lingering effect on anything.

Does he actually need to have some explicit ideas how a partner should be...? When the three 'love-agents' and the adventurer ask him questions, the tutor himself wonders, how he should have such clear opinions when he hasn't yet met somebody special.

(I myself had years ago no clear concepts how my future husband should be - and I wouldn't have expected my best friend to become exactly that person. Thus, I find the plan of Mister-Elezen to be rather a concept that makes people a tad too blind for other beings around them.)

And honestly, the only reason why I didn't vote for Bert was the reason behind the suggestion of grabbing a new hobby. If you do something purely out of the intention to fish for a partner, there's no guarantee that you either like the activity or the person you met because of it. Sure, people can be lucky and enjoy both aspects quite successfully, but I wouldn't ever recommend my own hobbies to somebody only because of any dating-adventages.

I dont think he - or anyone - needs an explicit idea about how their partner should be in the sense of looks, skills/job, character etc. no. But I do think that he needs to have at least a certain idea about things that are important to him in a relationship - does he want kids, would he be willing to work less, is it important to him that his partner shares his intrests, is he looking for someone who can show him new things etc.
To be honest: Reading his (german) dialouge I was seriously wondering why he even wants a relationship - one reason could obviously be that he doesnt want to come into an empty house after work anymore, but another one could also be social pressure or the idea that getting married is just what you do at a certain age, which isnt a good reason for finding someone.
(I had no clear concept about how my partner should be either, but I'm certain of my own values and ides for the future and I knew that I couldnt really be with someone who didnt share certain of those values and intrests.)

I agree with you on the hobby-problem (worst case: hes now stuck with a hobby and a partner he doesnt like), but I felt that he had so little of an idea of what he wanted out of a relationship and from a partner that thats something he has to at least think about before going on a dating spree, potentially breaking hearts and complicating work-relations just to try and find someone he clicks with.

There's this funny thing about hobbies that they're not jobs.... so he's not "stuck" with a hobby he doesn't enjoy. He can just stop doing it. But even if he tried out the hobby and didn't enjoy it, he's expanded his social circle. And he might still have met someone he likes who just enjoys some things that he does not. There's nothing saying you have to share all your interests with your potential partner.

So to me, the idea of self-improvement and expanding your social circle in a casual setting made the best sense to me. The suggestion is exactly why I voted for Bert.

As I’ve stated previously I’m genuinely surprised people seem to be have an actual meltdown regarding this quest. I understand being mildly bummed you’re chosen character didn’t win, but the vitriol seems like a bit much. That and as always there are conspiracy theories galore popping up.

Nobody is having a 'meltdown'. It's just obvious that the odds were stacked unfairly in Astrid's favour and the admission from many players over not caring about the voting process (yet voting regardless) merely makes it that much more of a mess.

I wouldn’t say nobody, there are some people I’ve seen that are more than just upset. At the end of day though at least it’s just a seasonal event.

Person A: Expresses unhappiness over something.

Person B: Wow, stop having a meltdown.

    Person A: ?????

-People are not having 'meltdowns' they are giving feedback. Explaining their feedback when questioned on it is also not having a 'meltdown'. Being accused of such is belittling and attempting to invalidate something simply because you could care less. Which is fine, you don't HAVE to care about it. But you also don't NEED to put down anyone in order to express that. If people actually WERE having a meltdown, it would be far more apparent... and the rest of the forum, and the moderators (who are here) would tell them to cool it (or put them in time-out).

Wait wait wait what? Who am I accusing? Who am I belittling? Who am I trying to invalidate? Who am I putting down?

I said SOME people are freaking out, I never everyone, I never pointed out names, and I even have said I understand being upset or bummed out how this played out. I also never specified WHERE I’ve seen these comments.
