    a question for healers.

this may be the wrong place, or a bad observation, but i have been dpsing through ARR and HW, i would normally tank back during Stormblood, but i'm nervous to anymore, the question i have is this:

why do the healers always seem to be in such a rush? every time i go into a dungeon, with a new undergeared tank that isn't comfortable with large pulls, the healers have been seeming to either abandon the tank or just berate them, and i am just wondering, why?

Ex healer main here. I believe people just want to rush the dungeon and get it over with. I've only come across maybe 1 or 2 in my life time that will berate the tank for how they pull mobs. Don't let that put a bad impression on healers, there are plenty of good ones out there.

I'm never the one to berate a tank over small pulls, but I will definitely say big pulls are the only time I feel alive in a dungeon. Our DPS kit is barebones, and while I push for healers to try and DPS as much as they can, if we can be in a situation where I need to heal way more but it results in a faster and more exciting clear for everyone, I vastly prefer it.

Now, that said, a few small small things in return on tanking: First, even if you're only doing small pulls you should try and be prompt about moving to the next group once your current one is finished. I see a lot of tanks wait to catch their breath or for the healer to regen MP or... something, I dunno, but that's bound to get people impatient. Secondly... just TRY doing big pulls. Save your cooldowns for them, try to rotate through them so you've always got one up and give it an earnest shot. If you wipe, oh well, it happens. People are very forgiving of a wipe if it's clear the person is trying, and they'll also be more understanding of someone doing small pulls afterwards.

    Yeah, I don’t believe you.

Just to start off, I'll say that I don't berate the tanks myself. I just suffer small pulls in silence.
The smaller pulls that some tanks pull at are mindnumbingly dull for most healers, particularly experienced ones. The tank CDs + our insanely high potential healing output means that small pulls usually have us doing nothing but DPSing, as sometimes just a regen keeps the tank up. This means our rotation is as follows:
    21111111 2111111111 2111111111 211111111
Being the DoT, the nuke, and DoT replenishment. Imagine how dull a dungeon run feels if the entire run is just hitting one or two buttons over and over, with no changes. And you have to do this dungeon after dungeon after dungeon.

Larger pulls opens up the need for additional healing and forethought making them immensely more engaging and enjoyable for most healers.

Mostly people want to get dungeons over more quickly (not just healers) because they're doing their daily roulettes and things like that. I don't mind if the tank wants to go slower as I expect everybody to be able to go at a pace that works for them. However, healing dungeons can also get quite dull and bigger pulls break up that monotony, especially now in Shadowbringers where DPS on a healer is dead boring, and slower pulls gives a lot more room for healers to DPS. But berating tanks for not going as fast, not something I see a lot of, but of course those that do are taking it a bit far. A "roulette" is a roulette, the clue is in the name, so you will get people of all levels of experience and skill, of course, so you gotta expect it, within reason.

When I tank and I'm not quite comfortable doing wall to walls (because I'm not a tank main and don't always have the extra pulls memorized), just as often it's DPS that run ahead and pull back to me.

I don't think this is really a healer specific thing. People just want the dungeon done as fast as possible...

That said, on tank and DPS both, I've yet to see anyone berate a tank that actually does speak up in party chat and says they're not comfortable with large pulls.

Beats me. I still heal the majority of the time, and I'm the one usually saying, "Hey! Wait for meee!" xD

I don't care if they do small pulls or big pulls. It's when they get to the first group, stand there long enough to make you think they aren't going further, then decide to keep going after you've dropped your bubbles/aoe ground effects.

Or they pull inconsistently. Small pull. Big pull! Half and half.

EITHER GO ALL THE WAY OR DON'T.

    Drives me up the wall.

small pulls are boring and the "new inexperienced" tank (this excuse is especially funny in shb dungeons) is gonna be a nightmare at level cap if they don't ever learn how to wall pull properly while leveling.
