I think it might be a good idea to temporarily suspend the housing demolition mechanic for those American fans who might have bigger things to worry about on Election Day than XIV, it'd be horrible for them to finally come back after perform their civic duty to find out they lost their house in game through no fault of their own.

You are ignoring people who are very busy and don't have time to play the game. What if I planned to not play the game for 44 days and then realize I have to vote on the 45th day? Then my house will be permanently lost even though I didn't do anything wrong.

But you did do something wrong. You confused not playing with not logging in and entering your house, which is all it would take to keep your house for another month or so.
