Twitter, Tumblr and Reddit aren't as heavily moderated as this place is which leads to those problems and the weird gate-keeping that goes on in regards to what issues are 'allowed' to be discussed. I avoid all three these days and feel a lot happier and safer because of it.

It does bother me that our community representatives opt to make use of Twitter and Reddit but are rarely seen here these days - it suggests to me that they're just getting a very biased and one sided account as to what the community desire and it'd certainly explain the more controversial decisions involving the game and its continued development.

I don't think MMO's will ever truly go away as they fulfill a niche that just can't be found anywhere else. Worse yet, a lot of multiplayer games simply don't have a proper chat function built in and so it's pretty hard to socialise in the same way as you can in the likes of FFXIV and WoW.

It is a bit disheartening that Yoshi-P speaks of them 'fading away', since I don't see that happening - unless they're literally pushed off of a cliff in order to make room for something else.

Considering an SE poll awhile back showed that something like only 1% of FFXIV players use the forums, if the devs only based their decisions on what the English General Discussion forum was talking about, it would be a very biased one-sided account too.

The people who post here are generally more invested in the game on a long term basis though. Furthermore, a large part of the reason as to why so few people post here is due to the lack of presence of the community representatives, the lack of responses to legitimate issues (such as the controversy of EU players not getting a promotion for the Black Fat Chocobo mount as NA and JP players) and other factors such as this site not being updated in many years.

They just aren't the money makes they used to be. They still make profit, like FFXIV, but they don't make all of the profit. I think SE wants a hit, and most publishers try to copy stuff like Fortnite, etc. Publsihers work off the idea of not just making a lot of money, ALL of the money. Making ridiculous expectations each and every following year. Greed is what is destroying the industry; a lack of passion

Granted, Yoshida might just be done with this game, and wants to try something new. I do think SE is taking too much from this game and not putting enough back in though.

I agree with this. New MMOs aren't seen as worth the investment anymore. Perhaps they won't ever completely fade into obscurity, but I don't ever see the MMO genre ever seeing a smash success that major gaming publishers desire ever again.

I think SWTOR was like at the time the most expensive game to make? Rather to elaborate, they do fill a profitable niche as theodric said, but they aren't fortnite money makers. Publishers can invest time and money into a quicker, cheaper to make project and make as much and more.

Case in point, the XV MMO they're developing for mobiles, to be released in China first. I don't know if it'll be P2P or F2P but the latter are virtual money-making machines and more profitable then their subscription based counterparts. I'm also afraid it may end up a Fortnite copy with a XV-flavour.

Mobile gaming really is one of the worst things that happened to the industry.

Don't get me wrong, there are some legit good mobile games out there, but the majority of them are nothing more than shallow, cynical cash grabs. It sucks; I used to be a huge advocate of mobile gaming before it became little more than ways to suck out every penny from consumers, everything else be damned.
