it took me a little while to figure out what i really wanted and it took some time for the pros and cons to really sink in for me

    elezen -
    +tall
    +good variety of faces
    +thin but not too thin

    -stiff animations
-lanky kong limbs don't look good in glams that expose the arm/legs
-tiny pea head not properly proportioned to the rest of the body (irl most adult humans are about 7.5 or 8 heads tall)
-most helmets look bad with elezen ears

    au'ra
    +tall
    +good variety of faces
    +athletic build

    -horns tied to face
    -hair clips with horns
-animations on males make them look like they're running with a load of shit in their pants
    -tails clip with some glams

    midlander -
+stock race, pretty hard to screw one of these up, can be short or tall

    -stiff animations
-male highlanders have no eyebrows still

    miqote
+more or less humans with cat ears and tails
    +decent height
    /decent animations

-hard to make one that doesnt look light in the loafers
    -tails clip through clothes

I know everyone likes to complain about Elezen head proportions, but I think the reason for it is that if you made them in "human-like" proportion to their bodies, their heads would then be proportionately larger than that of an average-height race if you had them in a scene together.

The "humans are eight heads tall" rule doesn't count for Elezen because they are intended to look taller than humans. If you just scaled them up and kept human proportions then it wouldn't have the same effect.

(One of my alts is a female Roegadyn and they're more or less in that boat - quite human-proportioned and not especially tall-looking when seen on their own, but put them next to an average human and they're big - whereas Elezen inherently look tall and thin.)

Petite its an okay thing, femenine... Nah, more fragile than other thing. Thats why female au ra tanks seems so goofy for me.

Miqo girls are way better in all aspects tho.

This is one area where my detachment to main characters in games actually helps me - I'm more the observer type in the real world.

Because I never see myself as the actual warrior of light - and by extension playable characters nothing more than interesting vessels that carry out my ruminations - I can play any race with very little care for appearances and glam.

    I guess it's something.

I'm in the same boat. I'm unhappy with all the female character models (and I'm female myself) so I lean more towards male character models.

My issue is I can't stay on one race for a long time, though I don't like Hrothgar. I'm an au'ra ATM, and hope to stay this way for a while.

Detachment isn't quite the right word, I think (I do get emotionally attached!), and I do spend a lot of time playing around with their outfits, but I do see the characters I play as "not me" and as separate characters. I'm used to playing games with pre-set characters that you just take up the role of, and this is no different except I'm having to invent the details of their personalities.

I think this might be why I'm not bothered by the "lack of options" that people see in the character creator - yes there could be some additional things we get to choose, but there is more than enough freedom to come up with a range of interesting character designs. I'm not usually trying to create something in such detail that I need more options, I just put the character together then work out who they are from there.

That's a pretty good re-framing, as I too adore the characters and the story. Thanks for the expanded thought!

Anyway, most women irl have hips/butts bigger than their heads, if they didn't, childbirth would be rather difficult.
Cats rub their faces against one another, and sniff each other's butts, so I am not sure if rubbing horns would be any worse :P
The female midlander run is great stop hating it. D:
