I'm sure they don't need someone that thinks the fires in AUS only affects the people living in the fire zones and no one else that suspending demolition is a good idea because people will use it to take a break from the game.
What about the thousands of people who lose their homes on a daily basis to random fires?

Why is one person's tragedy more deserving of concessions than another person's?

You're right that this also affects the first responders and medical/relief workers in those areas but those people still have the chance to return home at night to play FFXIV so they don't lose their in game houses.

Again, leave it to SE to decide if the suspension of the demo timer is needed just as they have done for past disasters.

No one is saying one group or the other is less deserving. They are pointing out that there are differences for the types of tragedies you are attempting to compare here. It is far easier for a company (e.g., SE) to make concessions for a group of individuals all similarly affected by a tragedy centered around their nation/community (e.g., a large-scale natural disaster like a hurricane, typhoon, earthquake, or wide-spread wildfires) than it is for a company to make concessions to people with individual-type sufferings (e.g., depression, rehab/PT, financial crises, isolated incidents like house fires, even smaller-scale natural disasters that don’t spread beyond a town, etc.) spread all over the globe. You are trying incredibly hard to twist the words of other posters.

People are leaving it up to SE. But there is zero harm is asking for it to be done as it has been done before. That’s not a crime.

For one thing it's not just one person's tragedy the fire has affected a lot off people to try and compare the fires in AUS to 1 person tragedy is 2 different things.

If you just spent 16 hours fighting a fire and you get to go home for the night knowing that in 8 hours you will be back out there again would logging onto FFXIV be the first thing on your mind, what about the people that came over from the US to help out should they get punished and lost there house because they came to AUS to help with the fires?
It's really not that hard to see why SE should put a suspension of the demo of houses for the time being as it's not just people in AUS but also people coming from other countries to lend a hand that may not be able to log into the game for a while.

Honestly, it'd just be a nice gesture on their part because it's definitely bigger than some would think. I just wouldn't expect them to do it is all. I just feel that they should. Some disagree and that is their right I suppose.

I dont think it would only count as a nice gesture, it would honestly be only fair if they stop it...seeing how long the JP players got their timer stopped for things happening in their country. Not doing it for other countries if they are suffering a national crisis would just be showing that they dont care much outside of their own bubble which I really hope that it wont be the case.

The best would be to change the system completely and if they dont want to take it away completely then at least make it so that you only need an active sub to stop it..

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

Except you're making assumptions that there is a significant number of FFXIV players who own a house in the game and are unable to play because of the fires, whether they've been displaced or they're acting as emergency/relief workers.

What if there aren't? What if SE is finding no evidence that any FFXIV player who owns a house in the game has been prevented from logging in due to the fires and that's why they haven't suspended the demo timer in any region?

Are people going to call SE cruel and uncaring for not making concessions for a problem that may not be affecting more than 1 or 2 players if any at all?

I trust SE to make the right decision. Considering the fires have been burning since September, I'm certain they would have already suspended the demo timers if warranted. It would have happened before most of you were even aware the fires were going on.

So why is there a reason to suspend the JP timer (and I believe that happened more than once too)? How would they even know if many of those that have a house are even affected by whatever happened in Japan to stop that? Why is it fine for them to do that there but not when a whole nation suffers from the worst fire?

How would SE even know who logged in or not and are affected at the same time? Why would it be bad if this only helps a few? These would still be paying customers.

Maybe those at SE might have simply not read or heard much about these fires or how bad they are. I also have not heard much news on our radio about Japan when something happened to stop the timer there. Its always easier to look at what is happening in your own country and kinda forget that there are others too. Maybe their news dont care about it thus they dont hear about it. Having at least a thread on the forum might bring it to their attention. (Or not)

I hope you argued that too when the JP timer was off for months..I mean how does that help the JP players in real life either. Yet there it happened and seemingly barely anyone complained about that.

Maybe I am in the minority but I find it really bad to get houses by having people loosing them through such a catastrophy. "Oh these people cant log into to get their houses which they have maintained until now because their real life is threatened..thanks for getting me a house now and tough luck to those that already suffered and will probably be disappointed when they come back to relax at least in a video game..." Sorry but I find that terrible. (But I hate the whole system anyway...)

All the major cities in NSW are doing fine aside from poor air quality. Until Sidney burns (lol), there's really no need for you foreigners to pretend like you actually care about the very small amount of players who are unable to play in Australia.

I live in Australia so why don't you try something different if the fires didn't affect anyone in a grand scheme then why have we got firefighters coming over from the US to help out, why don't you look at a world map and look at the size difference between Australia and JP. Japan is about as big as the state Victoria which if you don't know is a small corner of Australia.

Mate, international help is there to prevent the situation from getting out of hands. If you would have paid attention, you would have figured out that I was replying to someone who was wondering why Square Enix would halt the timer for any kind of natural disaster hitting Japan. Thanks for reinforcing my point that the tiniest Tsunami hitting Japan is more likely to harm more humans than these bush fires ever will.
