Dude, i love ya.It would be cool if HNMs/bosses dropped 2 items... 1 a powerful item, and 2 a powerful material that can be crafted into an equally powerful item. Even some unique materia would be cool.
For instance, killing Batraal gets you a ring that gives +12 STR... And you can only wear one, but still it's obvi more powerful then any other STR ring. And 2, it could drop a rare cloth, when combined w/ other easy/mediocre to obtain materials it makes a Hat that gives +20 Magic Acc and +20 Magic Pot for mages... then some +40 magic crit +40 crit materia drops as well, or a chance of it.
rarely all drop, often 1-3 items drop, rarely nothing drops.
This way crafters still have a purpose, and end game loot isn't replaced by stuff that could be crafted anyways.
If your LS doesn't need the materia they can sell it, same w/ the material, or even the weapon. I'm assuming U/U gear it to just prevent RMT?
I believe great things will start to exist after 2.0 so imma just be patient till then.

You know what, this sounds like a minor complaint but this is actually extremely important to me. It just feels like stats are so pointless and this in turn makes it so that gear really isn't that important (I haven't upgraded any of my lancer gear in ages and I'm still doing perfectly fine in the damage department).

good news for you, or bad news in how you view it. This is confirmed for 2.0, being those server issues/limitations is what is holding it back from coming out sooner.

the problem in ff14 is that stats are such big numbers you have to add big numbers to see a difference. These are some things i'd much like to see in future patches:
#1 Gear from Darkhold and Roaming NMs to become vastly better (not by 2 points or something) than crafted gear. (will resurect dead content for many)
#2 U/U gear to become meldable, if it's gonna be meldable while person is equiped with them
may be an issue for MH gear like weapons and tools.. if crafter breaks it what will the person have in his MH?? not sure but SE will find a solution.
#3 Drop rate for Primals to be fixed. i wanna start farming them already...
Aint farming atm cause i dont have the time to sink into it. cant kill 150 times for 1 weapon and 2 totems lol...
#4 Server merge with the option to choose for ourselves.
#5 Linking of the market Wards. tired of looking at posers and brick walls in Uldah.
Wanna go home, Back to my momma Gridania
#6 Stats to become important lol...
#7 New quests to gain GC Seals.. chocobo escort and GC leves are deadly slow and not easy to get a pt for.
<The Order Of The Twin Adders> <Chocobo> Escort <Party> <Do You Need It?> </Tell>....................... **crickets**
There are more but i am at work need to work a bit too at some point. will get more in this when i remember them.
if you have say... 300 strength, you'd have to add 30 just to see a %10 increase.
the ifrit argument is %100 valid because of the type of damage being dealt to the players although i do think ifrits melee should hit the tank for max HP with no gear on.

Your parser must be broken. I have a crab bow +1 and dex pie and attack power materia double melds and I consistently get about 10k less dmg in a moogle fight than an ARC with the ifrit bow. And we do the same amount of WS'.Hehe. sorry man no offence but i seriously laughed pretty hard at this part right here..
You think that being able to kill a primal in a bikini is ok???
I think it is unaccepable.. should have been 1 hit K.O + fatality instead of a victory..
Also i am not only talking about that aspect of stats not working.
Do some enmity + and enmity - stat tests.
And then try checking if a fully dressed buffed with DEX and PIE ARC using the Ifrit bow
does more damage than a nekkid one using a crab bow lol.
IMO if u gonna sink insane amounts of time gil. labor and effort to obtain something it should kick your crafted in 2 minutes item's ass into the outter space oblivion not make a tinybarely noticable difference that u have to look super carefully do detedct lol.
Attention thats just my opinion.
Every fight I've parsed has been the same damage roughly. Stats/gear matters

the best stats in game are the base damage stats of weapons. no other stat will have a 1:1 ratio in damage output.Your parser must be broken. I have a crab bow +1 and dex pie and attack power materia double melds and I consistently get about 10k less dmg in a moogle fight than an ARC with the ifrit bow. And we do the same amount of WS'.

not a 10% increase in damage, jsut a 10% increase in str performance. i didn't mean to blow your mind. it was just an example of % of stats. you have to add big numbers since stats are already big numbers.omg... failed mechanics is what this is...
Also where is it u read this can i have a link???

Actually, no, the "high end drop" gear definitely should not overshadow the "high end crafted" gear at all. For one thing, because the DoH and DoL classes are amongst the selling points of this game "Here, crafting is so important it has a whole buncha classes dedicated to it! With levels and all!"
Of course i'm not saying that stats shouldn't be useful or whatever, just- Mentioning something that people always forget, that they plan on, or at least was in the original plan, for the crafted gear to be, in fact, the ultimate gear.
Of course they could always work in some horizontal progression here, with crafted gear being good at boosting your overall usefulness and drop gear being good for REALLY SPECIALIZED tasks by having weird bonuses. (or the other way around).
And they could even mix in both things anyway, having high-end drops being not completed gear but components used by crafters.
