Wow....unless I missed it, this looks like the 1st Lost Hope comment I've seen in this thread from a Male Viera supporter.

But cmon, they never said "no" and they never said "yes" themselves.
And Yoshi can't give a definitive answer if it's happening or not.
But, and I'll keep saying this, if they do outright say "yes, it's happening" then I think Yoshi and team need to have something to show for it.

You're talking like it's one of those abandoned MMOs that see no updates for years, rather than one that gets constantly updated as this one is.

Yeah, they seem to be struggling immensely when it comes to anything related to character customisation. With Hrothgar and Viera lacking access to key hairstyles and many headgear options it isn't looking likely that the missing genders will be added anytime soon - especially with the reluctance for a complete overhaul of the character creation system in general. Even WoW, a game much older than FFXIV, has updated the character models once already and is set to heavily expand the customisation over time with key features requested by the community for years.

They're not going to address it until they have something to actually address. I wouldn't expect actual word of male Viera or female Hrothgar until 6.0, at the earliest. It'd be a pretty big deal to add to a patch.

We were always unlikely to see them added in a patch. The issue is that by not addressing it at all it's very easy for them to just sit back and hope that people forget/grow disillusioned with the idea over time. It's been clear since day one that there was a reluctance to add them (especially with Yoshi-P referring to them as 'weird' in an early interview). They'd only be weird if they made to be weird.

Following on from that, they claim to have added Viera due to 'popular demand' and yet going back through the original thread asking for Viera to be added a considerable amount of the feedback was down to people being excited about the possibility of finally seeing them. The amount of people asking for female viera to be added isn't actually as high as I initially thought it would be - the numbers were padded out and the thread kept active by people asking for the men to be added as well.

It's a shame that FFXIV struggles so much in regards to character customisation. To the point where even pseudo-MMO's like Monster Hunter World have a much better character customisation system. At least in that I can design a character that is both classically handsome and fairly well-built, whereas in FFXIV I cannot do that.

Though, of course, the development team bend over backwards to ensure that those wanting to play 'waifus' are catered to at every turn. It's a bit embarrassing, really! It's just a shame that the MMO market is so stagnant these days. I enjoy FFXIV, though the character customisation system is one of my major issues with it across the board, tying into other issues I have with the game as well.

Apparently they have the money to spend on TV spin offs but not to hire more staff for the very rote work of high-res texture asset conversion... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

At least the latest murmurings from them give me a bit more hope that they intend to improve the graphics in time.

This mentality needs to stop...yoshiP already addressed why there is no Male Viera. They didn't have the resources or time for it - IE they were probably gonna do it... but they also wanted to cater to the demand of a Beast Race. So they made 2 races instead of 1, but only had enough time for 1 gender of both. They also did this because it might be the last time they could make any new races because of the amount of time and resources it takes to make them in the fist place...not to mention the time it takes to fit the thousands of Gear Pieces to the models. Adding in the Hrothgar was also a move to give a much more Diverse option in making an avatar...since its the Only Playable Beast Race.

Also.....Monster Hunter World is a Newer and Much Different game with a much different game Engine. Comparing FFXIV to MHW is kind of weird.

Why does it need to 'stop', exactly? I'll note that - more often than not - it's people playing female characters who seek to downplay the concerns raised by those of us who play male characters.

I'm well aware of the reasoning that the development team put forward, though it doesn't really hold up to scrutiny for the reasons outlined in previous posts. I wouldn't consider Hrothgar to be hugely 'diverse', either - it's rare that I see one these days and those that I do see all seem to have the exact same face. They're also very bulky to the same degree as Roegadyn, which is weird since they're clearly meant to be a throwback to Ronso that weren't so oversized...

As for Monster Hunter World, it doesn't matter if it's a 'newer' game. I also brought up WoW earlier, which is an older game and as pointed out then I'll note that it not only updated the character models once already it intends to do as much with the upcoming expansion.

Yeah, I am sure they are so starved for money, they could not possibly be funding the production of a live TV adaptation of FFXIV.

This excuse only washes if we assume this is some exceptionally niche type of work - which it isn't. They (apparently) just don't want to undertake the steps required to provide them with the resources. SE as a company has plenty of resources at its disposal to make it happen.

As for Hrothgar being "diverse", if you think a reskinned Roegadyn with a lion head is "diverse", all I can say is yeah, whatever.

You can protest all you like - this "mentality" is going nowhere.

Also.....Monster Hunter World is a Newer and Much Different game with a much different game Engine. Comparing FFXIV to MHW is kind of weird.
... you don't say? Are you trying to suggest, though, that they can't upgrade their existing engine?
