WoW is certainly faster paced with its quicker gcd.

As far as which game is better... that's harder to say.

I think FFXIV looks better, but WoW has also updated its graphics over time.

FFXIV has a much better character creator, but WoW has both a greater quantity and grater variety of races. WIth the exception of Hrothgar not much in FFXIV steps outside of the mold much. You can do more with the FFXIV races that are here, like change eye color, eye shape, noses etc indpeendatly rather than just face options as a package. You have height and bust sliders and more skin color options. But while WoW's CC is much more limited, it helps make up for this with a greater quanitty and diversity of base races, plus allied race variants now.

FFIXV has 17 main jobs and WoW 12 classes, but WoW's classes have ( on average) three different specs and talent trees to shake things up.

Both games have had high and low points in story. WoW's story in BFA has been bad IMO, while SHB has been pretty good story wise. But these things tend to fluctuate between the games IMO and FFXIV's story quality has not been consistently good through the entire run in my opinion.

I've found that while there has been pruning in WoW, the whole 'three button spec' thing is an exaggeration in the classes I've played.

One advantage WoW has is quantity of content. I haven't done savage raiding, or non lfr raiding in WoW since emerald nightmare, but I don't recall WoW raid fights bieng low quality either unless that's changed lately. WoW raids give you four difficulty modes and more than 4 bosses in a raid tier. They have mythic + to keep dungeons challenging and relevant beyond farming gear currency. If I were still a progression raider like I was in WOW from Wrath through MoP WoW would probably be my preferred game, but as I'm more casual now and disenfranchised with chasing the loot treadmill it doesn't matter to me as much now how many fights are in a raid tier or how many difficulties a raid has to progress through. WoW also has flex raiding which is basically the best thing ever for casual/midcore raid guilds while still having the tighter tuning on Mythic with a set raid size.

In my very personal opinion WoW has better raids and PvP, nicer pace and design of combat, harder dungeons and solo trials and superior tanking+healing toolkits. Heals which interact with other abilities and don't instantly top off the entire party and also active mitigation make those roles really fun. FFXIV does everything else better.

WoW PvP has been at it's worst since forever though?
It's current PvP is: Better if there was none.
Class extreme unbalance, no more PvP forcing people to endgame PvE to be able to compete.
    It's terrible.
