It's a mix. Fundamentally, BLU has its flaws for being ineligible for current content and how many spells just have no use outside specific situations in Masked Carnival. Subjectively, you have people who quietly love it, and many people who are vocal about hating it.
Fun? I remember when it first came out, people were supposedly reporting me because my chocobo was killing mobs.
I got it to level 16, and by that level I was burned out already.
WHM | RDM | DNC
Even though BLU feel a littel better than we it was first implemented & I was also one of those who preach "give BLU a chance" when it first came out.
-Right now i feel MEH regarding BLU.
-I have 78, the others are to tied to Masked Carnivale, which is boring, fustrating & underwhelming to me. My BLU is level 60 but i cant move on with the 5.15 story because i havent finished Masked Carnivale, i went up to level 10 & meh. I feel the story & the weapon that you can purchase should not have been tied to Masked Carnivale.
-Many of the moves are underwhelming. After 6 wipes party finally got the Shiva spell. I used the spell in Masked Carnivale...it was like MEH, we wipe 6 times for this.
-BLU was basically to get player to do old content but yet BLU cant be used in PotD or Squadron Dungeon, which is solo content.
-SE said initially BLU was solo content & that it wasnt meant for parties but yet we use BLU for parties.
Outside getting the spells, im basically done with BlU, not even interested in getting the Blu log
I feel like Blue Mage would do well, in a design like it is currently, if we were in a more old school era / mmorpg. Like if this was FFXI blue mage coming out like it is now would be new content on a Tuesday, but it's #currentyear and while I feel while there are absolutely still people who would enjoy content like this that they're no longer in majority. To note there is nothing wrong with having content for everyone, minority included, just that you're now scraping against the grain lol. Particularly scraping against the grain with a 'job' vs some random side concept, which I think makes it a more heavier tool to go against grain with.I'm still interested in BLU, it's just frustrating that so few people want to aim for the mount. I don't raid at a high level simply because I've never found a group that align with my schedule, are willing to take on and train fresh blood and who are fairly social. Even if I did, though, there's no guarantee that enough of them would be open to doing BLU content.
Also I would imagine having loads of fun hanging out with you old school, yet at the same time I could make you zero promises that I'd ever log in on time on any which day or have the patience / energy that day to play long enough XD (so I'd not do that to you or myself, and why I've almost zero to no interest in PF related content when I can just slap the DF and get a fairly accurate estimate of expectations / accomplishments that day). Most of my old school spirit is pretty dead, maybe I still love having to walk around a bit, ride boats, and if designing an mmorpg I'd not for example ban teleporting just push it back a bit until you've opened the world (and still have some minor traveling), but in terms of things like what entails with high-end raids.. nah man I'm out. I'll see you when it can be done with a PUG lol (like I like DF because if I need to be I can "carry" and it feels good, but in higher end content no one carries as everyone lifts together, and really I don't want to deal with having to worry about everyone having to lift properly else my time was wasted). To note it's not just having to use PF but the weird balance of reward vs time, and the communication around the job, the potential loss vs what was gained, so not to say it's a single variable complaint.
I have to say though, my only smile to blue mage outside of casting a few classic skills once or twice was thinking "it would be fun playing with Theo", especially as I know you're having fun, but honestly... I'd probably have fun on any job hanging out blowing stuff up. So I'm not sure I'd even give that credit to blue mage. Errr in other words I can see why people would like blue mage as new content to fiddle with but in so much as I think people would have had fun regardless of theme / concept if it was just new and with people to chill with. So I still have a hard time believing what was done to blue mage, and how it was done, was worth the potential loss (either a real job or a job that would allow players who'd NEVER do savage content that can't be solo'd the tools to be able reliably do so vs "people who've already probably done it, doing it again, but on a new job"). Although I've been coming up with idea I think that can be a fairly gimmick unique real job, a powerhouse god king for casual players to solo OLD content they'd normally never get the chance to do, and also a way to let some of the more higher end minded players use it to do old content in a different style with others (sort of how it is now). Hopefully I'll post it before the end of the year.. lol, and hope you can let me know if you think it's a trash concept or not.

The old raid tiers synced aren't even that difficult to do. And it looks a lot more fun to use it with friends, and play with people, and do silly things in content and receive rewards for the time put in. Carnivale is still there, it got updated. The patch expanded on what you can do on the job while receiving potentially worth-while rewards.
But I mean, I guess, they could just give people an achievement mount for logging in sure.
Just let me have a normal job version of BLU already. It's like 70% there with what it has now.
I'm honestly enjoying having a reason to do some of the older fights while they still have a bit of a challenge to them since I never got a chance to do them back in the day.
endgame is collecting spells/arena/completing your log and doing boss fights in bluemage parties, you can level and do the story solo since overworld enemies give the most exp, there has been lots of parties on pf doing bluemage content, you just have to wait for all ragequitters to leave so you can properly train but that happens with all content and is the reason why I stopped raiding because it's so annoying to wait for the party to fill multiple times. No endgame, recycled content, needing a party to do content in order to be solo, there's no point in having BLU, it dies off way too fast and has no shelf-life compared to the amount of time it takes to do it. The only thing that changed is that there's rewards for doing old content but there's less people that would be able to do it than Ultimate, which again is another retention problem of BLU, so it's a heavily flawed and confused design that SE tried to band-aid fix by making it rewarding doing old content as BLU but it still boils down to recycled content and no real purpose from it.
If I'm understanding what you are saying here... you can't progress the class until you clear up to stage 25. Which you don't have to do. You can just go straight into 25 without clearing the previous 24 stages(same with stage 30).
