The Sneak graphic desecrates the sanctity of angling

As you all know, FSH is the holiest, purest, most noble path in all of FFXIV. I was pleased with 5.1 to hear some improvements were coming to gatherers, and while not much for FSH has come out prior to the second wave of changes with 5.2, I was enthused to hear of Sneak, a way for us to move without detection while maintaining the luxury of full mobility.

    But then there is... this...

These big, ugly floating orbs, absolutely defile the purity of the class, disrupting the serenity of this most noble of pursuits. It is very visually disruptive in an otherwise tranquil activity.

    This is heresy.
    Sacrilege.
    Corruption.

I understand this graphic is in place to have an easy indicator to know when it's on but at the very least it should be invisible while we are in the fishing stance. If we are being real we should not even have to have it activated near enemies, because no one should ever attack an angler under any circumstance, but I realize I can't ask for reasonable solutions here. Remove the orbs and repent.

The Holy Sea of Fishgard will hear about this and you'll be sorry.

Agreed. I don't mind the orbs so much on MIN/BTN, but I haaaaaaaaaate it while fishing. Since 5.1 I always turn sneak off when fishing unless I absolutely need it.

What is even the point of sneak being an ability? In what situation would you ever want to get attacked by random enemies as a gatherer class, and so disable sneak (assuming the floating orbs weren't a factor)?

But yeah, this. It made sense when we had different grades while levelling, but now not really. And I often forget to activate it when changing class.
It honestly should just be a passive traot at this point.

The tone is comical but the missive is genuine. I don't like the graphic while fishing. It stands out a lot

It made sense when it had the drawback of moving at a slower speed. The different grades granted by traits only ever seemed like a hacky way of saying "you are hidden from enemies at most X levels above you". Since that is now baked into the ability and the speed penalty is gone, there's zero reason not to make it a fully passive, always-on buff.

Having to manually activate it is only a problem if you change classes in town. If you change out in the wild, sneak will auto-activate. I hope they can fix that at least, because it's put me in harm's way more than once.

Hell, maybe they should just invert the indicator. Remove the current orbs, but if sneak isn't active, display a sparkling disco ball above the character's head. Because, you now, you're deliberately making yourself more visible to enemies.

Smearing oils on yourself to cover your scent

Well, the rotating orbs graphic is something that you don’t like. In reality, you would be doing something you don’t like in order to mask your presence, be it smearing oils on yourself, dressing up in camouflage, sitting in a deer blind, etc.

I don’t mind the orbs, though I turn them off when my level is high enough. For some of those fishing holes, the wildlife wanders dangerously close.

The orbs are probably more like a signal to other players that a gatherer is running around, such that if the gatherer still manages to get attacked, players can assess the situation and lend a hand.

Here’s a compromise: When fishing, you’re standing still anyway, and the fishing rod is a visible indication of what you’re doing. So when you first cast your line (at a given spot), the orbs should fade from view, only to return when putting your fishing rod away.

I was actually able to devise a useful use for those floating balls, coincidentally on FSH. I can use them to time my fish bites. I position the camera so that the balls pass behind my character's head, press the cast button right when one does that and then count the balls to the bite. One ball-interval is two seconds.
