How are healers fairing right now?

People who wrongly insisted that there was only one buff worth casting, are the people responsible for dumbing down one of the most engaging, fun, and adaptable jobs in the game, because devs made the mistake of giving more weight to your opinion than those who played the class as their main. Thanks for that.

You can spare me the snide. It is true AST had a skill to put aside a card to use later, but you'd still have to sacrifice your Draw CDs into fishing for mitigation.

AST was never about fishing for cards, it was about doing the most with what you had. A 30s CD on Draw meant you would not have a card for every occasion, nor you were meant to. Then there was the Balance, which was objectively the strongest buff amongst the card arsenal. IMO that effect should have never been there since it made players fish for it.

But instead of removing the "fishing" by making each card grant a situationally valuable damage buff, like crit, DH, Spell/skillspeed, tenacity or determination, they made every card into a flat damage buff percent and added seals.

So you still fish for seals but the card variery is gone, wich is the two worse things about they could have done AST.

I understand that. And I'm not saying you or the person above you are wrong. I'm just saying while you people here haven't fished for balance... sadly and the cold hard truth to this is the streamers, paid ad peoples making vids and the players SE flies out to events and whatnot WERE fishing for balance. Raid groups in that range mostly only cared about getting that balance for their clears and meter runs. And sadly those people are the people who have voices as their opinion and words reaches accross the net from twitch to youtube to pornhub. So that's most likely why the change was made. Sadly the voices here while SE has proven they can listen to them, sometimes like now we just aren't loud or big enough. Monks have been fighting the good fight for years so I understand... I just also understand we're small compared to who they are actually listening too.

This is also not touching the fact that no matter what the cards were going to be changed anyway because of TP and defense being changed or taken out completely. 4.X series Astro can't come back due to that fact alone. Change was going to happen no matter what.

I certainly fished for balance back in the day. However, I don't see that as a problem. It was the most useful card at the time, there is no denying that. I think a better solution would have been a way to mitigate the RNG, at a cost. Say, have an ability called "force the fates" that lets you pick whatever card you want but then your next draw/redraw cycle you are guaranteed to not get that card. Maybe that or have unlimited redraws but every redraw in quick succession costs more mp.

As long as players can buff their damage with any card it will ALWAYS be meta. The whole point those streamers and raiders fished for balance was because it buffed their damage. Even if it was only a 1% buff they will still find a way to fish for it because that 1% will add up. It's why people look for those rotations and stuff now. You can't stop the meta. What we have now is really one of the only ways to fight it. Hell thats why ninja and other jobs will always be in groups. You can't stop the meta. D:

Streamers are a minority of the community. There's no need to break it's lore, the unique gameplay and the fun of it just to please the small amount of people who want Meta. That's why nobody wants to play the class now because it's dull, annoying as hell on console and bland. I'd give anything to have the old card system back with a few minor changes, this card system is not fun. This is what happens when Square Enix caters to people who don't hardly even played AST long enough to adjust to its gameplay.

of course there could have been better solutions but SE didn't care about them,it picked the most laziest one of them all and preferred to ruin the job instead.
but havens forbid that your characters butt will be flat and anything less then perfect and to that they are will to put the effort into perfection.

Also one of the main issues we've been having with this is that none of them have been healer mains. It's definitely not who they should be listening to for healing advice. Here's to me hoping Momo makes it into the lot next time.

I wouldn't ask for Momo personally, because he's the kind of person that only really cares about optimization and parses. For casual play and what not, that's not really something he does. I'd prefer a healer that does look at both casual and savage tier of play.

With the current state of healers, can we really expect anyone to want to take to streaming as a healer main? Because I don't really see that happening.
Furthermore, even if the top influencer was a healer main, there's no guarantee that Squeen's going to take any interest in them, or even allow them to discuss the healing direction. Consider that they've been actively dismissive about discussing their design concepts, regarding healers specifically, since we learned about the expansion's updates. We've had some quick comments about "this is how we want this," some pointed live letter statements about very specific spells or abilities, and we've had people filling in the blanks with derived "between the line" narratives (myself included), but the truth is that Yoshi hasn't wanted to discuss healers in a long while and that's probably not going to change.

You don't want that.. Momo was one of the people whpo agreed with Mr. Happy who wanted Balance. You don't want that... or I guess what I should say is.. you already have his input. :c

Agreed. If memory serves me right momo actually preferred the ast changes for its consistency. (Which he is more than entitled to have that opinion. ) So even if momo was featured more prominently I doubt anything would have changed.
