As large as the worlds spanish speaking population is, I was shocked it wasn't an option.

I understand this, but going just by numbers and regional availability, it makes sense to include Spanish above and beyond many other languages. Of course, this is with the utmost respect to all those other languages.I am not a native english speaker myself, so i see where you are comin from.
I am neither supporting or against this idea of yours, but if they happen to do this, there might be more people asking for their language to be translated and it might gives image that SE is playing favourite.
Exactly.
I am a native English speaker, and despite my best effort to learn in adulthood, my Nintendo DS says I have only reached 2nd grade level Spanish![]()
I support Answa and this thread, and all of the Spanish-speaking players who want to play. And not just because Besaid is fabulous.
SE, donde es espanol?

Hola!
This is actually very funny since SE does have italian ans spanish versions of EU site.
IMO they should just leave the EN, JP, GE and FR as default game languages, but allow those interested to download (maybe adding language preferences when installing the game) so additional languages could be DLed separately at FFXIVconfig and added to the game. This could even include variations like having both american english and british english, being american english default but having british english as a separated option.
I'm sure that, even if SE lacks in localization team of these languages (like they do even from the current ones since they were looking for french translators some time ago), the community itself could help with this at start...even if, at start, just having the text translated here. Maybe adding at localization forum a part just for translation discussions of languages that aren't the 4 default languages of the game.
Still, this is somewhat hard to happen right now because by adding a new language they would need to add an entire support part oriented to this, like having support service to that language, GMs, etc. which would end as a snowball-like issue, not only regarding menpower but also regarding costs.
Hell, I'd do it for free. I love translating stuff/helping people out. This is actually very funny since SE does have italian ans spanish versions of EU site.

And i bet many others would too. I saw a similar request from italian community a few weeks ago. IMO it would be just a matter of SE adding a place where players could support the localization team with other languages.
The support part would end needed, but not for now...it could just become another of the long-term promisses regarding the game while the translation does could be a thing that just need a minimal effort from SE as soon as the community shows the will in supporting this...because we can't ask them to start such language project "because community will help" and then just one or 2 users actually help.
Try and start a petition about this, also asking those who sign it if they will just support the idea or help translating too. If the community show interest in helping with what SE lacks, maybe they do start a translation project.
Now...where is Bay to go dig some info/numbers regarding this for us? =P
I'm also Spanish and, although I can understand English (another issue is that it costs me speak it, sorry lol) there are certain phrases of some NPCs that are difficult to understand (especially Limsa).
As already mentioned, the Spanish community is very large and is, alongside English, one of the most spoken languages, so it's somewhat surprising that hasn't been taken into consideration. I understand the politics of translating only if required by law of a country to reduce costs, but it's a shame that Final Fantasy XIV is losing many Hispanic players because they want to play a game that they don't understand
-----------------------------------------------
