Well now that we got that side business out of the way, original post, discuss, drink & be merry?
Also is the death while sitting.
You stand up THEN die.
Awkward.

While I do agree that it looks dumb, I understand why they don't make an animation for sitting death--it doesn't happen terribly often. But chocobo death was kind of intended to happen, as opposed to the "I am a level 95 Dragon! But that Chocobo is so powerful that I'll leave you alone..." idea of FFXI. So it only makes sense that they'd have planned better for it. Sitting death would be my second choice for what needs an animation, though.
The problem with "falling off" the choco is probably that it would have to take into account from which direction the attack came. I think it would just look better if you passed out straight forward, hit the chocobo, and rolled off. While not as realistic as flying off, it seems more like a "one animation fits all" to me. But, I don't get paid to come up with those ideas--I'm sure SE could manage better. Or maybe your chocobo could trip and land on top of you?
Overall, I definitely agree that happily dismounting then falling to the ground is rather silly.
EDIT: Then, considering that we're not limited to Chocobo mounts anymore, we'd have to have an animation for EVERY mount.![]()

yeah, very right there, goobbues kind of ruin it with their humongous size, and imagine if a goobbue tripped and landed on you... @_@ I don't think even the return function can save you from that bloody mess.
If I also think about the animation lock that a "Oh I didn't die, but I got knocked off while riding" kind of situation would have to as long as the same animation lock that was imposed when we simply dismounted our birds., which is about what, 2 seconds?
