It really could have been emote spamming and maybe you didn't know that the text spam can be disabled.
It also could be that the group tryed to tell you to stop spamming but you interpret it false and you ignored them.

If I would get ignored by a emote chat spamming player, I would also get nasty against him and report the spam.

The GMs don't punish you for nothing.

And what if that person has you blacklisted and can't see what you are saying? It's petty to report people for emoting with their friends instead of using the blacklist tool designed for exactly this purpose, to hide annoying players.

On one hand - Emote and ability spamming is an offense and it's honestly
annoying to see the chat being flooded like that.
What's funny is though, you can still get warned even if
you emote'd without it being said in chat. Weird, right?

On the other hand - it's very petty for them to gang up and just report you
over it where they coulda really just told you to politely
stop without going all the way to the higher ups.


I'd recommend you and your friends to hang out somewhere in private
so people won't mob you for playing around. If they were being jerks,
hopefully you reported them too.

I gotta disagree with your recommendation. OP and his homies shouldn't feel like they can't access a particular area now because of some jerks. I know this isn't what you were trying to convey Jybril, but I still just want to make it clear that they don't own anything. No area, no zone, no city, no bench, nada. OP should feel free to hang out wherever he or she desires. Turn off emote chat logs or whatever you gotta do to avoid all the bullcrap and have fun. And I'm strong headed so if I was in this situation, I would actually make sure to visit the area more while completely ignoring the toxic group's existence to make it clear that they're not going to scare me away from anything.

At any rate though OP, really sorry this happened. Some people suck. Makes me feel bad too because on my server socialization like this in the cities is actually heavily encouraged and appreciated.

Some people just want to willfully ignore any steps to avoid conflict so they can be angry and vindictive for the sake of it- which is honestly the bigger issue here. Instead of asking us to stop, they jumped straight to harassment and threatening to report us while demanding others do the same, which then of course turned into an actual strike on my account as opposed to an unofficial verbal warning and taking the time to educate said clique on how to use the blacklist function instead of wasting GM time.

Oh yeah I'm definitely gonna stay in Limsa. I'm probably not gonna use /say or emote in a totally public area anymore considering how easy it is to abuse the report system, but there doesn't seem to be any rule against standing in someone else's "spot" with your other equally largehuge Roegadyn and Hrothgar friends.

I'd love to see the chat logs. There are two sides to every story, and I'm only seeing one. People are rarely cautioned by GMs without saying something that deserves it.

Pretty much this. No offense to the OP but Im skeptical that you were just being friendly and having fun with emotes and all of a sudden a band of evil doers showed up and mass reported you resulting in a GM jailing you and talking to you. I say this cause if it shows up in a chat log, the GMs can see it, so I highly doubt the GM was just like "Yup, bunch of mass reports so this must be totally legit. Warning strike!"

Normally (from my own experiences witnessing this stuff), its cause it escalated beyond fun and games. Either there was name calling and objective language, or some level of harassment (i.e they asked you to stop spamming emotes and you decided to run up to them and flood chat with emotes.) Could you be completely innocent and this is all a terrible injustice? Sure. Its possible, but Im very wary of those claims.

Well yes, I wasn't conveying that at all. I am saying if you're spamming emotes where it can fill the chat and it's an offense, that's why he got in trouble...I personally wouldn't waste my time reporting no one but if you wanna spam emotes without text clog then go somewhere that no one has to see it.

Also as I said earlier, you can get reported even without the log being shown (maybe like pvp tbag crap) so I would just be careful where I do stuff bc ppl can be petty. I agree with you where ppl shouldn't be zoned from having fun.

Sounds like the people of Cactuar are pretty uptight. That group when never survive on Faerie. Limsa is all about the chats, dancing and emotes here.

I’ve been on Cactuar for 4 years, and rarely do I see anything like this happening on there—the server is generally very laidback. This was either a group of people being jerks (and they very well could have been from a world other than Cactuar, what with World Visiting being a thing now); or there’s more to this story than just “I was emoting with friends and a gang of bullies pulled up beside us and mass reported me for no reason”.

The irony is that Cactuar’s Limsa is usually filled with people being: 1) AFK, 2) crafting, 3) socializing in /say or /shout (with emotes), or 4) doing random dances. It’s usually very crowded and loud, which is why I tend to avoid it and stay in my housing ward.

I think a little more context is necessary. Did you just do one or two emotes or did you spam the chat logs? If the former then I definitely think the situation is unwarranted, if the latter I can kinda see why the GM stepped in even if I don't agree with it.

As much as I hate it, spamming emotes should not be a reportable offence and I would never report someone over it. If this IS reportable then SE is literally setting a trap by allowing the system to let people do it. Put a throttle on emotes if it's against the rules. Can't do more than 3 emotes in a 5 second time span else you get throttled and can't do emotes for 30 seconds.

If you can get banned for using emotes and spamming then I would think at least 90% of all accounts world wide would be banned. That wouldn't be very good for making profits for FFXIV.
