You'd be surprised, aside from the random miss-tells the Quicksands is pretty tame here. Now shout chat in Ul'dah proper on the other hand... Let's just say Balmung's Ul'dah has become Crystal's General Chat hub, and with that obtained all the pitfalls that come from it.
Nowadays people get offended and triggered by everything so it's not a surprise that SE get sollicitated that much and "take actions" to preserve their "poor little ones" (aka the snowflakes player base).
Notthe first time I here that regarding that city, no matter the server, I wonder WHY it's almost always in THAT particular city oO
People don't know how to take criticism anymore, and bad play is rewarded with with a coddling mentality. Yes, this is a casual game for the most part - that doesn't mean people need to walk on eggshells in fear of getting reported for pointing out things. This whole 'please don't say anything even slightly negative' mentality that we seem to be going towards and the devs seemingly pushing towards it is creating a disturbing trend.

I had something similar happen, but I was never cautioned or anything. I had a miqote with a squeaky /happy emote that sounded like a meow. I did it at a hunt once (with the emote in chat box ticked "off" so it wouldn't spam) and while most found it funny, one hunt linkshell got surprisingly really, really nasty. I only used the emote 5-6 times as well. Some people have no chill in this game, and now I play Au Ra.
I know someone who got cautioned for going afk on someone's lawn in this game, and another for trading a friend who was teleporting (some stranger saw him do it, and reported him, when it was a long running gag in our FC, we did it to close friends as a laugh, we stopped after he got cautioned),
So getting cautioned over emote testing does not surprise me.

Easy access to the marketboard and vendors makes it ideal for people to congregate if they don't have a house or access to an FC with one. If those things weren't so close to the main aetheryte it'd be less popular.Nowadays people get offended and triggered by everything so it's not a surprise that SE get sollicitated that much and "take actions" to preserve their "poor little ones" (aka the snowflakes player base).

It really could have been emote spamming and maybe you didn't know that the text spam can be disabled.
It also could be that the group tryed to tell you to stop spamming but you interpret it false and you ignored them.
If I would get ignored by a emote chat spamming player, I would also get nasty against him and report the spam.
The GMs don't punish you for nothing.

This is so weird tbh even though I can see why it might annoy someone. I jump across worlds a lot to check the MB in Limsa and every world has people spamming crap on the chat. How come not everyone doing this just get put in jail then. Even I've had times where I have fun with a friend and spam funny sounds and the most I've gotten was slaps from people.
Emote chat spam is not that annoying and can happen to everyone.
The part were I get annoyed, nasty, mean is when the spamming person is keep spamming even after he got politely told to stop.
But the problem ist, that writing something can be understand wrongful, like:
"Could you stop that emote spam, please."
Can be understand as.
"We don't like your character voice, so be silent."
Or.
" You spam our chat with you emotes. Is it possible for you to disable the chat send function."
And I don't want to start with the possible miscommunication due a language barrier.

Really can't tell if sarcastic or not, but having a bad day today so probably a tad blinded by anger. I know not everyone there is looking for trouble but when you have a high concentrated area of players(for no reason other that the MBs being conveniantly placed next to the aetheryte) there is bound to be trouble.
Hey man as someone with many in-game warnings they are not as bad as they try to make them seem. Sure they do appear to stay on your account but they do not mean much of anything unless you get reported often.
As someone else said they are SE's way of saying chill out with x.
