I think Giott is definitely intended to be female, but using a male model so her emotes aren't an early giveaway to anyone who can recognise them. The journal starts referring to her with female pronouns as soon as her face is revealed.

On "placeholders", Anogg and Konogg have already been switched out from early placeholder appearances. I'm quite sure I remember looking them up and they had different hairstyles.
That's the thing though, they aren't that special, that's why I suggested it. As a fun way of involving the community.

As for them having "placeholders" prior, the average player wouldn't know that. But it does support the theory that we will see their faces in the future.
