I assume this is for something of of reddit.![]()
Personally, I don't see how it could be "gay" to play a female character. A gay man would probably play a male character. If they play for eye candy.

In FFXI i used to jokingly say it was gay to play a male character... i mean why would a guy wanna spend there game time looking at another guys butt... sounds kinda gay to me....
but back then the irony was that 4 of the girls in my linkshell all played Male characters because of the way girls were treated by certain guys...
I don't really care that much whether you play a male or female character. but if your a guy playing a female with a female name then don't kick off when i refer to you as she or her instead of he or him...
thats what annoys me...
sitting there in a duty someone get antsy cos the tank messed up some mechanic... i might pipe up and say actually it wasn't her fault. (Au'ra female character) only for them to then kick off that i called them a woman....

I get supposed women get mad at me if I refer to them as "he" or "him"... just easier to say "them" nowadays...In FFXI i used to jokingly say it was gay to play a male character... i mean why would a guy wanna spend there game time looking at another guys butt... sounds kinda gay to me....

I just go by their character really. I don't care what people call me since it
really doesn't matter and I don't see the point of correcting them but
feel free to correct me. I just think people should play the game and not worry
about who's gender is who and let folks play what they want.
I know this isn't the topic at hand, but it always makes me giggle when females correct people when they've used a masculine pronoun for them. OK I totally get it...if it's that important to you, by all means please correct the person, but I can't help but think they just want to have special recognition because OMG FEMALE ON THE INTERNET, lets swoon and give them things!I just go by their character really. There are definitely conversations where it may be relevant to the conversation going on, but it's almost always first thought when I see that:X

So I sometimes use he to refer to someone online, like on reflex. I have literally gotten into huge arguments with them and some random dude. The worst are those "husband and wife" couples in-game, the "husband" comes in and starts "protecting" her. I'm just over here like..I know this isn't the topic at hand, but it always makes me giggle when females correct people when they've used a masculine pronoun for them. I'm sure that's not the case for many who do correct, but it's always my first thought :X

I think I did that exactly once - back when I was playing a male character and had this very unpleasent replacement-co-tank for our weekly Coil-raid. For T3 everyone in the group who could would change to a tank, so we were able to just run through, ignoring all the mobs etc. The best tank-gear most people who werent a tank-main had was the armor from LT - the WoL-set.I know this isn't the topic at hand, but it always makes me giggle when females correct people when they've used a masculine pronoun for them. OK I totally get it...if it's that important to you, by all means please correct the person, but I can't help but think they just want to have special recognition because OMG FEMALE ON THE INTERNET, lets swoon and give them things!
There are definitely conversations where it may be relevant to correct the other person, but it's almost always first thought when I see that:X
My Co-tank made a comment about how "gay" it looked and how REAL MEN like him and me would never wear it!
So... I changed into my WoL-armor and told him "I'm not a guy" - I think he actually made a comment about how he had never met a girl who played a tank almost as good as him aswell... could have been almost a compliment - hadnt I been the better tank in the first place.
One of my fondest memories...
(Other than that I never cared about it - I might react slower when refered to as "he" because it takes me a second to realise "oh, you meant ME, sure, sure, sorry!" but I never correct them - even now, playing as a female character, I sometimes get refered to as "he")

It may not be relevant to the conversation at hand, but I'm a female playing a female character so why would anyone refer to me as 'he' unless they're making a whole bunch of assumptions? A bit like you just made assumptions about why a woman would correct you ... As Theo said, call people by the gender they're playing, if they don't like that, they'll tell you. But don't make assumptions about why they told you please because what you just said in the post I quoted was borderline offensive, at least to me. Stating that I'm female has got absolutely nothing to to do with me thinking about, wanting or seeking special treatment.I know this isn't the topic at hand, but it always makes me giggle when females correct people when they've used a masculine pronoun for them. I could go ahead now and make some assumptions about you and your views on women but I'll be charitable instead and presume you really didn't mean to sound as though you think most women are mercenary and manipulative

I wasn't referring to only in-game interactions. In games I play, i will address people as what their character is unless I'm told/know otherwise. It may not be relevant to the conversation at hand, but I'm a female playing a female character so why would anyone refer to me as 'he' unless they're making a whole bunch of assumptions? But at any rate, you see this online all the time. You can be in the most mundane thread about a person's dog where someone is like "Oh man, his dog is cute!", but then OP has to correct them and tell them they're a chick. Them being female has absolutely no bearing on the cuteness of the dog, so why bring it up? To me that is incredibly silly.
For what it's worth, I'm female. Now give me all your gil and shinies.

I agree with you. When someone drops their gender and/or sexuality out of the blue is a big red flag.I know this isn't the topic at hand, but it always makes me giggle when females correct people when they've used a masculine pronoun for them.
