Lets not mince words here, the size of content patches has seriously dropped, while player numbers and revenue are rising. I would guess that FFXIV revenue is used to cross-finance something else, just as with WoW back after Cataclysm, when it got REALLY noticable only a fraction goes back into the game/maintenance.

5.1, and 5.11 especially, removed more playtime from the game than it added, which might be a first overall. It added one singular progression fight, one other catch-up/backfill EX primal, and one dungeon (though very good, it was as usual already outdated content upon its release. The incompetence of that design baffles me). The fairy beast quests are the shortest, least involved daily quests of all beast tribes every, some of them are literally "move 20 meters, talk to one NPC, turn in", and only the connective tissue of the one-off quests and the beautiful (but empty and dead and nonfunctional, but at least it looks pretty) dream zone are nice.

I am thoroughly confused as to why SE decided to make the Crystarium turn-ins, a newly added feature, obsolete in the first content patch too. Not to mention there is STILL nothing to do for Fisher, the job simply didnt get any lvl 80 relevant content (as anything is crafted with scrip stuff, not caught, and so far it seems no mounts, pets or otherwise cool stuff can be fished exclusively).

I yearn for the quality of the older patches, when we would get 2 dungeons, 2 primals, when beast tribe quests werent just 30 second affairs for massive XP, making us move through the zone more and engage with it a bit.

We only ever got 1 primal per patch except during the content dump of 2.1 and 2.2 when they were re-adding fights from 1.0 into the game. Only expansions bring 2 ex primals.

Not everyone keeps up with the gear updates, and different contents provide alternative gearing paths. The MSQ, being the sole required content in the game, provides a minimal gearing path.

Its really funny how people can recive things so differently... The only thing I can agree on here is that we did indeed get one dungeon less.

Some of the other things, though...
    - dungeon gear and 24-man gear has always been catch up gear. I remember excatly one time in ARR when I really wanted a piece of dungeon gear for my set - the level 80 headpiece, maybe because it had the accuracy my tank needed back then or something like that. The BiS-gear back then had an ilvl of 90, while the dungeon gear was 80, so ilvl was still lower. Dungeon gear was never intresting for people who'd been playing non-stop, at least not to gear their main-job(s).
    - except for getting the origanl first 3 primals as a trio, we always only got on ex-primal per patch.
    - are you counting the 24-man raid as "one singular progression fight"? Or are you refering to Ultimate? Either way: You're forgetting one of them.
    - I'm not quite sure what "Crytarium turn-ins" you mean... the leves? The replacement for the crafter quests we got? Are you confusing Crystarium and Eulmore and are actually refering to Kai-Shirr? Or did I miss something? For leves and "quests": Well, both have always been obsolte once you reached max-level, so... and the weekly turn ins offer a lot of scrips that at least I need to craft raid-food...
    - Personally I'm happy they turned the fisher into a class people play more because they have the goal of collecting all the fish for the sake of collecting all the fish - instead of being gated by it.

Now the main-thing to diagree over: The pixie dailies, which I found very enjoyable. Yes, they might be short, but I'm glad I dont need to wait 10 minutes for the quest-FATE to spawn anymore or carry items within a time-limit. Instead I got quests that have a chance to change, which I considered really cool! For the one with the sleeping pixie I got 3 or 4 different places so far where she was hiding and the "find that stranger"-quest had me find 3 different NPCs with different little stories as of now. I enjoyed that a lot more than having to run through half of the East Shroud before even reaching the questmarker.

All in all the only thing I feel I've got less off is the one dungeon - seeing how we got Ultimate instead, I'm okay with that, though. No need to fool oneself: Its not like there was so much more content during ARR-patches - and personally I would say that the quality of the content is more likely to have increased.
