Come on... 200k only? Pfft. That's niche. *

...At least that's what people said about FFXI, and it had 500k subscribers at one point.

    People and their numbers.

I've been trying to get some BETA access to it, but nothin' doing. Sucks 'cause I wanna give it a fair shot. **

    * = This post is sarcastic.

    ** = Except this part.

Read the stars XD He knows.

Didnt XI even get up to 1.5m at one point? I remember a big celebration on playonline, Around 2005-6

But yeh your post proves what is a Success and what is a failure, tho TERA is not a success yet as its not worldwide yet, and even analysts say that 3-4m subs is extremely successful, most dont even expect to break 1m.

Most Subs listed was 500,000 sometime in 2008. Total active characters(peoples alts included) 2M in 2009. by 2009 a lot already had about 9 alts for inventory space if nothing else(+1 adding their main).

So did they reach 1M at least? maybe but I doubt it.

Ahh right, yeh just googled it up: 500k subs in 2008: http://forums.ffxiclopedia.org/viewt...hp?f=1&t=16794
    And 2million characters by April 2009, http://www.playonline.com/pcd/topics...opics_all.html

Which is what 7 yrs since release? Well 5/6 to US/EU

So with XIV following XI's release so tightly i think in 5-6 years this game is going to be BOMBIN

Well now day's anything that gets 1-2mil subs is considered a success, it all depends on weather or not they can keep their subs in the long run, 1-2mil sold boxes is all good and dandy but the real money is in the sub's, look at WOW for example, by now 60% if not 80% of it's 12mil players have bough all 4 expansions, thats some serous money right there, but it pales in comparison to what they make month to month out of their subs.

Yeah dude, if SE/shareholders/Cthulu hadn't been out for the money grab, the game would never have been released in the state it was. I'm not trying to open that argument again though, since the fact of the matter is that nobody save SE themselves know why that even happened, and they're not talking.

But they most certainly WILL go for a PS3 launch, as that's pretty much the only way they have a shot at getting mass awareness out. Like others have posted it doesn't matter how well an MMO changes if the mass market isn't aware of these things. There has to be a significant push, and the PS3 launch IS that push.
