    why is it if you have "mage" attached to your job you need a full-length gown to cast magic? the new whm af looks like a wedding dress with red accents. and well blm is not far behind being a coat with a dress

    Well, what do you think of when someone tells you to picture a wizard? Generically at least, someone wearing long robes.

    Asking why the mage gear is all robes is like asking why the tank gear is all armour.

    Spellcasting just looks better with long fluttering robes or coats, to me anyway.

    I mean the AF is the gear I'd most expect to adhere to tradition. It's the very definition of iconic gear.

    Other gear doesn't have to be robes, though, and for a change they actually gave us something. I wouldn't mind more gear with a scarf or cloak style look instead.
