You sound like a broken record, as I've seen you use this same tired statement over and over again as though it's meant to describe the entire community.
A sizable portion of the population did NOT want the XI style RNGs (among other bad things from XI). There have been numerous threads calling to scale back the absurd droprates, but they get drowned out by a strong vocal minority that complain about the game handing loot to players on a silver platter (so basically using one extreme to counteract an imaginary opposite extreme argument). We're not looking for easy rares, we're looking for some sort of middleground, but we keep using these foolish extreme arguments as a reason to not do anything and keep things the way they are.
Proof of my statement. This isn't XI, and it shouldn't be XI. It should incorporate the good from XI, but not the bad. Square said themselves that they want XIV to be more accessible to players - XI became an inclusive game and was decently successful by staying that way, but Square wants to go a different direction with XIV. Whether you like it or not, Square will make changes that will probably make you cry about the good old days of XI, so in the future, it will probably us having to tell you to deal with it or go back to your 10 year old game.

I can't tell if this is super sarcastic or for realz. I guess I'll answer in both ways lol... falling for trap I sense yes.
VoA can only be done once a week and gained a new boss each Arena season. (realz)
WoW is a super hardcore game, it's really difficult and offers an extreme amount of challenge, diversity, and new (never recycled) content! (super sarcastic)

I wonder if Isaveron gets paid to troll the forums with his/her anti-FFXI campaign.

Hey man, bold words hurt. I never said this was like XI. I just told people to stop crying about drop rates because no one cares.You sound like a broken record, as I've seen you use this same tired statement over and over again as though it's meant to describe the entire community.

I miss the days that coffers gave AF items, good crafting drops, or thousands of gil...

<sarcasm>I SHOULD HAZ WHAT I WANT WHEN I WANT</sarcasm> =_=;
On a more serious roll playing note:
THIS! Imagine for one moment that we are playing a Role Playing Game. Here we are slaying monsters for experience points or spiritbinding and low and behold a key drops! It just so happens to open a treasure chest hidden by the beastmen we were slaying... What could possibly be in this treasure chest? Perhaps, loot that the beastmen have obtained in the process of definding themselves and occasionally killing an adventurer. This may include any number of craftable goods, Arrows included.The small amount is just ludicrous. Can you imagine if it were real life, medieval times, you and your band of companions storm the enemy stronghold, defeat the beasts as they rain down hurt on you, and after the bloody battle, you approach their battle chest with anticipation. You defeated the beast that was the key holder and you are prepared to reap the treasure of these man-killing savages. Never again will they kill your wife and children or set whole villages aflame. You are ready to steal their wealth and make an attempt at rebuilding your shattered life. With a satisfying click you open the lock, and open the huge chest to reveal.. 8 arrows.
On the other hand, every now and then a rare, unique item lies inside. Do you think beastmen are pumping out rare items on a daily basis? Seeing as they don't even wear the damn masks themselves, this must be so rare that it is reserved for the chieften (NM) and requires loads of time to forge.
From this point of view, almost any <filler> drop makes sense...
Furthermore, one must take into account SE's point of view: if items are too easy to obtain they wont be able to retain a playerbase (and hence profits) for any lengthy period of time, and if that is the case, then you can kiss Final Fantasy goodbye.
I might also add that it could be worse: What If the Key opens a chest that drops rare craftable raw materials that have a high chance of failure (high lvl synth) that requires a rare recipe (WoW ish) and to top it all off can be multimelded- only to increase the chance you blow it up. Now you would be looking at a major pain the the a**, BUT who WOULD NOT want this item?
Oh yeah: 2/20 Ifrit Weapon
