What's the policy on harassment through compliment?

So far I've said, "looking good, beautiful". Nothing has happened yet, but I just want to make sure I'm not pushing my luck.

That's kinda creepy and some people are going to take that the wrong way.

People of both sexes play characters of both sexes. I know a lot of dudes who play females, and a lot of girls who play guys. So in the context you're saying it, its creepy. Just say "I like your character" or something - Just because someone is a catgirl in game wearing skimpy clothes does not mean they're an adventurous young woman behind the keyboard or whatever - Chances are its just greg the customer service assistant whos just come home from work and stripped down to his underwear in his room.

Well as a woman who plays this game (albeit as a male character) that is kinda an odd and creepy thing to say to a random person you know nothing about. Add in the fact that you're a lala and that makes it kinda creepier. Since all Lalafels are the spawn of satan. Jk on the last part ... maybe but yeah I'd rethink what you say to them.

It's not harassment unless they tell you to stop and you continue. But be warned that you might end up eternal bonded and bring pointless drama to your life.

It's a balance of not being creepy and complimenting. Sadly some think being creepy IS a compliment, hence the "would you say it to your mother" thing. If it doesn't sound like your hitting on them like "looking good beautiful" then you're fine.


Saying this as a guy with a female character and I don't want to risk making things weird between us. :P at least buy me dinner first.

I mean.. half my FC is genuinely women, but ok.

Also when it comes to compliments, I'd would just that "that's totally you, don't ever change that" and they'd know I'm talking about their glamour and also conveying to them that said glamour compliments their way of expressing themselves. Plus other phrases I would use.

Honestly, general polite compliments are not hard to do..

That really depends on the way it was phrased and how the wholer interaction went down - if it was anything that could easly be understood as inappropriate a report might not have negative consequenes for either.

A report over "You're character looks really nice in that outfit, good job!" might lead to your predicated outcome.
A report over "Hey, sexy, looking really tasty in this clothes " is way more likely to earn you a strike.

People usually dont report strangers out of spite, but because they have a reason - in this case: A stranger said something to them that made them feel uncormfortable.
So... dont say things that have the potential to make others feel uncomfortable (its really not that difficult, just think of your mom!) and dont count on the GMs turning a blind eye if what you really want to do was hit on catgirls in skimpy clothes.

Of course it can be harassment even before they tell you to stop - if I would just call someone every slur under the sun in one /tell, so they couldnt tell me to stop, would that not be harassment? I mean... cant be, they never told me they didnt wanted to be called a [insert slur words here because I actually dont really know any]!
Same goes here: If that compliment is phrased in a way that could make that person feel uncomfortable - maybe because of weird sexual implications - they dont need to tell you not to say stuff like that to them.

Being told to stop and not following that is pretty hard evidence of harassment though, agreed - and most likely evidence that the GMs will consider... even though their first solution is going to be to telly ou to blacklist that person.

I think harassment, is too strong a word for this. If you were to say "Sup' girl, you got some nice legs there, lemme hit that." Yes, that would be harassment.

"Looking good, beautiful", doesn't strike me as harassment. More like ok? The extra adjective at the end, would most likely make her think that you're setting yourself up to hit on her(pick up line).

I'm gonna be honest, given the world we live in today, I don't want to be banned or have my account deleted because I told a female she looked good. I've done it twice so far and not problem, but I don't want to push my luck. What would Square do if someone reported me for harassment after I gave them a compliment?

Its simple, we are in a video game. Stop telling people they look good. "hey your character is really pretty" that is ok but, "Hey girl, you look good" does not belong (imo)
