What's the policy on harassment through compliment?

I'm gonna be honest, given the world we live in today, I don't want to be banned or have my account deleted because I told a female she looked good. I've done it twice so far and not problem, but I don't want to push my luck. What would Square do if someone reported me for harassment after I gave them a compliment?

If you were really just giving a compliment it would most likely be fine even if someone did decide to report it as harassment. SE reads the logs to verify reports, so if all you did was compliment someone's outfit, or simply said that their character is pretty, looks nice, etc. it's unlikely there would be any problem.

On the other hand, if by 'telling a female she looks good' you mean something like saying something not only about their looks, but how that makes you feel, or something it makes you want to do, then you might be edging in to the potentially-making-other-people-uncomfortable territory. Just think of it like how you might treat strangers that you meet in a public place.

I seriously doubt you would get banned simply for complimenting someone though. If anything you'd probably get a warning first anyways unless you were being particularly creepy or persistent.

The fact that you're even asking about harassment makes me wonder exactly what happened. If you complimented someone's glamour no one is going to care and most people will be happy so long as you're not a creep about it. Even if you're a creep so long as you don't continue being one when asked to stop I very much doubt you'd be reported or that anything would happen if you were.

Though, seriously, I think you can dispute the ban. I can't imagine more than a very small minority, a dozen players maybe, actually being offended by a kind gesture.

Try the following, both in game as in real life and you should be fine: Ask yourself if you'd say whatever it is you want to say to your mother. Assuming you have a normal relationship with her, you should not be saying inappropriate things.

Both in game as in real life its okay to complement people - yes, even females! As long as its not creepy or dangles on the edge of being sexually inappropriate. So... check with your mother to see if thats something okay to say. And even if your mother tells you its okay to say that, if the person asks you to leave them alone, leave them alone. Same goes if they dont respond.
Following those rules, you should be totally fine - even if someone ends up reporting you.
