Hey, thank you for bringing light to this. I have some mental health problems too and I understand. Harassment is normalised like you said. It's generally accepted now that this is the way the internet works and if you have a problem with people being disrespectful to you then it is you who is wrong and you need to toughen up or leave the internet/gaming. It's a shame because online activities can be really helpful to people who are suffering trauma as an escape for whatever is going on in our RL. In a better world the people who display unnecessary disrespectful and hostile behavior should be the ones the community rallies against, and be kinder to people like you who needs support. Imo it's the community that needs to "grow up", not you. I'm late seeing this thread and I think you stopped reading already but hey I'm just glad there's still some people out there who expect a higher moral standard.
People like you take the fun out of gaming with your ultra sensitive nature and perception. If your personal experiences "trigger" past events then don't play it. That's like trying to recover from alcoholism by going to a bar every night. PvP promotes aggressive tendencies thru player vs player competition. Victory can and should be allowed to be expressed emotionally thru emotes hence why they were created. If it's not for you then don't play it. Go to the gold saucer for non competitive content and rewards. Every aspect of this game is not for everyone. You don't have the right to remove the variety and fun to express joy, excitement, and accomplishment with your reports and claims.
So I have heard that people have been harassing OP because she shared her experience with PVP and how it made her feel with a serious issue. Apparently people were writing in her FC book asking her "what emote should they do next", and I am disgusted. Doing that to a sexual assault victim is completely unacceptable and I just want to say that it would be so much better if we thought about others, and how they felt instead of antagonizing them.![]()
It hasnt just been facebook. Ive seen people making in front of this topic and the op on discord as well. Disagreeing is ok, but seeing stuff like this happen.. we deserved it when we lost feast chat.
Well that escalated quickly. Yikes.

Talk about blown out of proportion, take an L and git gud if you don't want to be emoted over. This isn't behavior being normalized, this IS the norm and has been since people been winning and losing.
If you lose you deserve to be insulted and shamed. Is that what I just read?
Let me clear this out, behaving like wild animals was never the norm in competition, people took the infamous internet + impunity mix and turned harassment into the norm, but insulting and shaming your opponent after beating them was never the norm in competition. I competed a lot in my childhood throughout many years in various sports, and never, ever did I come across anything remotely similar to the rain of insults and death threats I've been spotting in every PVP online platform.
The reason why a lot of people insult isn't because it's normal or acceptable but because they can get away with it.
Adding my 2 dents here.
After 7000+ FL matches in 4 datacenters, I can't say I see a trend to "normalize" harassment. That's a rather extreme view. There is toxicity for sure, but it's usually rather tame. Everyone and their dog have been "victims" of emotes. In RL professionally competitions people may not behave like this normally, but amongst friends, and over the internet, it's always been like this. More or less.
I Have shuffleboard matches with my friends often, and we taunt each other like crazy.
I can't know for sure ofc, but I highly suspect that for some, the heat of competition is too much. The word harassment gets thrown around A LOT these days.
Sure, that's the correct way of interpreting that line... -____-
