Exactly this. A number of job duties involve you tanking an enemy as a Healer or DPS, which would be tantamount to suicide in group content. That's not to say you can't learn from it, but it's not the primary teacher of how to handle group mechanics.

Really, the main thing is that a Hall of the Novice update should be available.

*finally makes a forum account and de-lurks*

As a WHM main, I feel like if I played dungeons, trials, or raids the same way I am forced to play basically any given MSQ solo instance, I would be Very, Very Bad at my role. I can get through them just fine, but if I then go into a late-game dungeon and end up heal-tanking a mob and focused only on trying to wear them down with Aero/Dia and Stone/Glare, then either I'm not clear on what a healer is supposed to do or something has gone seriously off the rails. Either way, that's not how you want to play group content as a white mage—at least not as your first strategy, though maybe if the boss was almost down and you're the last one standing for some reason—yet that's literally what the majority of the MSQ solo duties will make you do if you main the job.

I'm going to run it at the lowest difficulty every time because solo instances don't matter except for story. Knocking on the same HP-sponge for 5 minutes or 2 and a half minutes won't make a lick of difference for me and that goes triple for fights where I'm playing some other character (Looking at you, Thancred).

Will it make some really awful players be able to skirt through without improving? Maybe. I don't think there were many people being held back to begin with, though.

It's not something I asked for or even understand why they added, but it makes something that's not really all that fun for me take less time. That's about it.

Ultimately this is the right answer. Many of these challenges aren't hard, they're just tedious. Especially the later ones where you're spamming 1111211112 the entire fight.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

Putting this behind spoilers in case there are people who haven't played it yet.

Both Ranjit fights are very tedious to me. Especially the Thancred version. When you fight as yourself, at least there's some mechanics to dodge and stuff.

So, on every other one of my toons, I'm doing this instance on very easy mode.
