I just think it's sad that some of you believe we shouldn't have the difficulty setting because you think it will make players better without it. I got news for you, good players don't get worse by taking advantage of the easy setting of a solo instance and bad players aren't going to get better by doing the normal setting. your argument is moot.

some people play this game for enjoyment and don't find the solo instance content enjoyable at all. while others just do better when in a group regardless of the content. your inability to see past your own wants makes you believe this feature is a bad thing, it isn't.

So far difficulty levels are only specific to Second Coil of Bahamut, most Trials, and 8-player raids(though with Stormblood and after they are more or less glorified Trials mostly because there is no trash to fight in-between the boss fights, and some trials being glorified Raids because of the add phases with enough adds to fill 1 raid floor or 2), and Ultimate being for that 1% playerbase that is the hardcore crowd, and all of the midcore crowd actually interested in trying to clear it, but some if not half of them are hindered by bad players who are trying to see what the fuss is about(this tends to be the real toxic people that claim to be "fans" but don't really have a clue about how to play the game).

Bad PF groups can generally ruin a players will to run Savage or even the Extreme fights, whereas bad DF groups can just make you wish Trusts were available for all pre-Shadowbringers content, which is why the callback campaigns to get people to play again/run older content are around...

For the Moogle tomestone event, I suggest making it so you get the irregular tomestones for ALL pre-Shadowbringers content while also making sure that the tanks and healers don't feel like trash at those levels...

As for the callback campaign, try something better to get people to comeback instead asking the players to ask their friends to comeback, like asking the players to comeback via e-mail notification and give the rewards once they log in. It's not going to convince them to play for all of those 7 days, but it's a start...

I'm honestly surprised so many people take issue with the difficulty setting.

I've only started to play around two and a half weeks ago, but I only found myself using them if there was something I didn't feel like dealing with. The MSQ instanced quests are honestly pretty annoying, they're slow, don't require much skill other than dodging AoEs and get really tedious after a while. Most of the time you don't even need to worry about healing since you have a healer with you, or some broken-ass way to heal in the middle of the fight, since the designers can't account for when people don't have self-healing on hand.

And keep in mind, I clear about 95% of the instanced moments I've come across on my first try. They're not hard. The ones I don't, I just put on very easy, because I more than likely died because I wasn't looking at my screen for a split second at the end of the fight. I pretty much beat it already, so putting it on a lower diff to just make me blitz through it a bit faster isn't much of an issue.

I can't really speak for some of the later content, but I just dislike the instanced moments in general. They break the flow of gameplay to me, and I'm only really interested in cutscenes. I think the difficulty settings are a good addition, especially if Echo was in place before this point anyway. It just saves time, and I doubt players really get much worse from it since they're so easy to begin with. The biggest threat to you inside of them isn't the enemies, it's the boredom making you slip up.

Absolutely nothing wrong with it. It's a personal choice and it's fine. If people prefer to choose an easier difficulty let them.

Totally okay with this option, means I get back to actually playing the game faster.

I would prefer everything being more challenging.
Not difficult per se, just challenging.

Nerfing Steps of Faith was the first of many downfalls from this ideal situation of mine.

    What was nerfed there, specifically?

Why do you say that Steps of Faith was the first? SE had nerfed plenty of content prior to Steps of Faith to make things more accessible to those not up for the challenge.
