This. One of the best things about being outside the 3 main cities is being free of the spammers. Last thing I want is to see their crap when out playing the game too.
Would love to have a world chat channel.
These always make the world feel alive in WoW and Archeage which has the nation chat which has a similar function. Both of these games also had a trade chat channel which is server wide which would be great to see in FF14 as long as you started out of it but could opt in / out when you choose. This would give players an idea as to what items other players need so that we can craft them. e.g. someone posts a request to craft level 60 plate body and someone PMS them to say they can craft this for them.
As others have posted this would only really be useful as a feature if spam can be kept out e.g. Bots and people being obnoxious who are just spamming the same word over and over. Perhaps limit the amount of times people can post per minute and also allow players to filter key words out of the chat.

if there could be a proper filter system to the chat and fast spamming bot treatment ,it can actually be a nice idea to have a general chat for a server and if more can be done then maybe even be able to broadcast messages across your current data-center(with a special item maybe).
cause really the best thing about being outside the city is escaping the bots spammers
I think a few people would troll such a channel and spam it with useless stuff, just because they have a big audience listening to them. And then discussions emerge what the best and intended use for the general chat is, and some guys are gonna be the general chat police and report people every day. Occasionally RMT. Ye I can live without it lmao
