Well at least they admit that they are still in development, but think of the positive, when the game is finalize we do not have to buy it again, and not everybody paid $$$ to play, all those buddy-passes people has been riding the game as long as we have.Umm...I think SE is fully capable of polishing this game up, however, what of the people who have payed 50+ dollars to play this game now?
Personally, I think the game is already unique compared to other MMOs. Specifically in it's open ended sandbox feel. However, it's been 6 months since release and those of us who have stayed on should be able to access more content by now. Even though the servers are free to access, we all payed $$ to play a game that as of yet is far from nearing the end of a prolonged beta stage.
I think this argument is reasonable.
You are contradicting yourself, providing premises that may never come to pass, and making baseless assumptions. Allow me to elaborate. You are contradicting yourself by saying that both "major overhauls to the system" need to be made and "it's just the top layer which needs a bit of churning and refinement". These are extremely different viewpoints that are in direct violation with each other. You are providing a false premise by saying "once it gets its problems fixed" which is likely to never happen. You are making a baseless assumption that the game will "be a success" as there is extremely little evidence to suggest that that will ever happen.
As for what is actually wrong with the game? I'll say it before and I guess I'll say it again. The UI takes up way too much space on a screen that is supposed to be showing battle animations (those of your character and your allies), the controls are clunky and leave much to be desired from both mouse/keyboard and keyboard-only users, the key-pressing reaction times of the system are incredibly slow by today's gaming standards, the battle/casting animations themselves are so lackluster and boring to execute and watch its laughable, the battle system itself is incredibly boring with battle regimen being an extremely dumbed down version of weaponskill chains, the fact that all content is soloable(taking out the MMO from MMORPG, the dull-as-rocks quests and storyline pale in comparison to those of any other MMORPG (taking out the RPG from MMORPG), and the overall lack of content creates a lack of reason to play. How are they doing the game wrong? Take your pick and send it over to SE if you want. They won't listen to experienced MMORPG players. Beta-testers cried for changes before release and you know what they did? Not a damn thing. This game has already failed and there is nothing anyone can do to revive it. The sooner SE realizes this, the sooner they can scrap the project and build something else.
Wow negativity all around, but most of what you said are personal preferences, while the rest are still in development, if you have been following the news, all those things you mentioned, yeah, all those things, are being over-viewed by the current production team that actually takes in suggestions and idea and scrap the ones that won't work.
You know, people say the same thing about FF titles they do not like as you just said the same about FFXIV not being complete (but at least they admit it). FF13 = great example (people just don't like it! therefore = complaints). Yes, they did not profit as much as they expected, BUT, that does not mean in any way they do not have the dough.I don't mean to be negative but... Time they don't have much of it. They already spent 5 years on this game. The other FF games in the series had as much time spent on them but they came out complete and a billion times more polished then FFXIV. Also it is not everyone who will wait a whole year or more to see this game completed.... So far the patches they releases were all minor tweaks that barely affect the game.
So no they don't have much time. As for money.... Didn't i read at the end of last year that they had some kind of financial troubles? They lowered sales forecast by 91% or something?
Yes you can. You can judge it after they start billing you![]()
you crave too much information, the amount they release is perfectly fine with me and a lot others.Anyone else agree that SE should share more info on the status of the development? They need to tell us in what direction they are going. I know they told us already what they will fix and what they will add but i think at this point we need to know more details.
How are they going to fix it? What systems will be in place? More info on content, grand companies.. etc. We don't need to know how long or when just what. They need to keep people hooked and interested and so far the info was very slow to come out and we don't have any idea where the game is going... it's like walking through fog.
The game is not a failure, it is incomplete... it's basically a beta or even alpha at this point but we need to know where it is going before we can say if its a failure or not...
You know...rift is a clone of many...thats not a very good uh, example. No, people just expected a decent amount of content. I mean, look at Rift, an MMO which is even younger than FFXIV, and already has more content today than this game is likely to have within the next year.
Also, I have to say that the argument that MMOs are never truly "finished" is a bad way to look at things. Yes, MMOs continually get more and more content added on top of the core game, but at the same time there is a point at which the core game can be called a completed product, and the game should not be released before that point.
THIS THREAD IS FUN!![]()
I have hope. I can see the potential in the framework that we have already.
The way we can grind now is good enough for me, for a while. I'm confident that the content will come eventually to flesh out the bare bones we have at the moment.
I think people should watch the intro trailer for the game again. It's quite appropriate. The game is currently at the beginning of the trailer. We are socialising in familiar surroundings, doing leves and fighting malboros. We are gaining a small insight into the world around us and its rules by living in it.
However, there will come a time when the peaceful world we inhabit will be engulfed in true chaos and i suspect that change will come quickly. We will all be grinding away and an event will fall from the sky and throw us into the coming war.
I'm quite happy to enjoy the quiet times we have, slowly working away at being ready for the challenges that lay ahead.
The real question is not, "is the game a failure now?". It should be, "who doesn't want to fight a dragon that can take down a fucking airship!?"
The war is coming, are you ready?
Obstacle, not a barrier.
Even the NEW development team admitted that this game failed and needs A LOT of work.
Fanbois in denial.
