Crafters in particular may currently find that they can easily achieve high quality, and we believe that crafting actions aren’t balanced very well at the moment. We’ll be making overall changes throughout Patch 5.1 and 5.2 to make it worthwhile for players who have put in the effort to optimize the equipment they've prepared.

code for, anyone who dumped hundreds of Materia in to the forbidden meld toilet bowl, you win.

I mean, I literally described how to farm a large amount of grade 7 and 8 materia for 0 gil in good time for the patch just 6 posts above you.

If people can't even be bothered to put that effort into their gear, with the method spelled out for them, then they really don't deserve to make HQ endgame items easily.

Thank you. I’m glad Square Enix is finally going back to how things used to be. And yes, just put in the effort, and you’ll be amazed at how fulfilling it is. Lazy players do not deserve to have access to everything and anything, all it takes is dedication.

Is it possible Square Enix listened to and read this thread? (Translating it of course) If that’s the case, this thread did more justice than I thought it did, and I’m very thankful that the developers of FFXIV have actually cared enough to listen. There is absolutely no reason to make end game so easy and unbalanced. That should be for 1 - 69, 70+ should be harder.

Hearing this coming from a character with that name is...ironic, to say in the least.

But in any case, I'm still hoping overmelding is less of a RNG crapshoot if it's going to be mandatory.

Agreed. I've been quoted a few times here and it has put me in a bind. I don't see any need to deflate enthusiasm but I also don't feel right about demanding my level of crafting from others, let alone scream at a development team and expect them to force others to that level.

For me, crafting starts on Tuesday and this is just the beginning of my crafting week. I don't know how much more 'hard core' it needs to get but I don't expect SE to balance around this. I wouldn't want them to. Most people wouldn't participate if this was the normal. All said and done though, as long as they keep 75% HQ base for HQ parts it should balance out. Right now if you have no melds, all HQ parts, mats and food you can pinch out HQ gear. That's really all casual crafters want. To have the best gear available and say they did it all.

Forcing Penta meld crafting will simply shrink the invested player pool but I think SE know that. I guess we will see if they decide betweeb keeping the pool big or elite.

Keeping things inflated with players, or, in other words, giving everyone a happy face sticker for participation like in kindergarten isn’t really necessary nor is it common practice in most online video games, and it shouldn’t be. People are separated by work ethic and effort naturally in all games. Also, back in 3.x before SE started catering to casual players, the game sold just fine and did very well. And even if they do create an “elite pool”, you and everyone will still continue playing the game.

What they are doing is a good thing. They probably realize they’ve been screwing over vet crafters for a little over 2 years now, and want to give back. They gave casual and new players what they wanted already, is it too much to ask to actually do something for vets or hardcore players once in awhile?

Also, endgame content is supposed to be difficult. Dont know what makes you think it should be as easy as level 20 content. 90% of online video games don’t work that way. I mean, like the posts above, if you can’t find the patience or care enough to read a tutorial on how to farm materia for low cost, then I think it’s good SE finally makes balancing changes.

It’s a joke name, haha. I have other joke name characters on other worlds you might find funny as well lol.

Anyways, they’re not revamping their RNG algorithm just so you and I can have a hunky dory time melding things. If it’s too hard for you, you simply don’t do it or find the resolve to try again another time. That’s what separates determined players from casual players. They have made crafting so easy these past 2 years, that if you haven’t accumulated a decent amount of Gil during that period of SE’s generosity towards casual players, I don’t know what else to say. I know you have the work ethic in you, trust me you can do this.

Melding is RNG and always has been, always will be.

This is the crux of it. It's hard because you didn't horde Gil.

Truth be told you don't need gil for crafting in FF14. That's kind of what makes me shrug most of this off. I've been to Jenova. It's the extreme in the spectrum, where 450 gear sells for a third of what it sells for on Sarg and when I say sells, I mean it's listed for. Considering you can get Goetia gear the same iLevel it's very much a make it if you can or skip over it set of gear. In the end I wonder how much of this is tied to anything SE did and how much of it is simply people know to wait for a few weeks, copy and paste 5 macro's from a website and back to before. I'm not a big macro crafting fan so I will simply skip this whole phase and strengthen alts, selling off materia as I get it (and I have hundreds, I just know to wait for the 5.1 rush to list) but it's not that SE made it easy any more than SE made Castrum easy. People do it enough, it becomes easy. I'll wait and see what they do before I come to any conclusion. I've said it a thousand times. There is no hard in a video game. Can, can't, do, don't. 0's and 1's. If you need the grind, enjoy.

I mean, that's fair. If for example they made materia much, much harder to get and guaranteed meld, or added a system where you could combine 20 materia into a special guaranteed overmeld materia I'd be fine with it.

We are talking easily crafting HQ, not the ability to craft HQ full stop though. They said they just want putting effort into your gear to mean something, not be mandatory. With the 75% quality increase from HQ mats any casual crafter can make endgame. They just need to take a different avenue of effort, acquiring and making all HQ materials. I'm not sure why people are panicking.
