But will you gain the experience for it when you run through the dungeon solo
No you won't. It specifically warns you if you underman a dungeon that no EXP or items dropped by defeated enemies will be gained, however treasure chests are still found throughout them and appear after defeating a boss.
Another way of soloing certain dungeons is to get to Second Lieutenant rank in your Grand Company and unlock the Company Squadron, and level them enough through their training regiemes to be able to undertake 'Command Missions', which is basically running a dungeon with the Company Squadron as your other party members. When this available it cannot be accessed through the normal Duty Finder, you physically have to enter the Company Barracks at your GC HQ and speak to the GC Commander in the Barracks and select 'Command Missions', and select the desired dungeon and form your party. Note that at the moment only a limited amount of ARR era dungeons are available through this system. I'm not sure if SE will add more to it later on, but with the new Trust system in Shadowbringers I'm liable to believe that they will not sadly.
And speaking of Trusts, that is a third option for when you start SHB's storyline, this is a system where you take certain story NPCs along with you into certain main story dungeons in SHB and you gain EXP and items as normal. Trust NPCs cannot have their AI changed or set (unlike the Company Squadron) but their AI tends to be more on the ball than the rather dimwitted Squadron members who require constant micromanaging to function properly. Completing a dungeon with the Trust system then allows you to rerun that dungeon with Trusts any time you like by simply selecting 'Trust' from the main Duty menu. The Trust system is automatically gained fairly early on in SHB's storyline.
Either way, there are ways to solo run dungeons, but they all have their positives and negatives, and limitations.
