I hope they never add new races or gender options so we can focus on art assets and development for actual content for the game, like pvp, fights, ba 2.0 etc.

Once a project is approved, it is done so with an projected estimate of the resources it requires to make, and those resources are allocated to making it. If they promise something is being done or will be done, it will be done. They cannot make those statements without first going through the process to get it approved into their schedule. Square Enix doesn't make stuff up on the fly in front of an audience or a reporter. This isn't Bethesda. This company is a clearly well oiled machine. They don't operate on the power of improvisations. They plan all.

So when they say hairstyles and faces are being added to the Viera and Hrothgar. It's going to be done. When they say they will add more content to an aspect of the game that only a tiny minority of this game participates in, count your lucky stars, it's getting done. A project that isn't even approved of yet will not be made using resources allocated to already approved ones, much less those that were officially revealed to the public. And when a new project gets approved, it will be done so with its own promised set of resources, not by taking from another's and risk having previous projects be delayed. That isn't how it is meant to work. The only way the resources of one project would be translated to another is if the prior project is already completed enough and won't use up all the remaining resources that was allocated to it. In other words, it would only happen if a project has excess resources it can spare for another. This has also happened in other game companies when a previous project loses favor. But that clearly is nowhere near the case for SE by Yoshi P's own freaking words. The schedule is tight and resources are limited. So far, they haven't found a way to fit in male Viera and female Hrothgar into everything else because they already have a lot on their plate. Which should not come as a surprise since there are still aspects of 5.0 that need to be fleshed out.

The scaremongering about how adding genders -which isn't even certain they would ever do- would signify approved projects being kept from being done is total kitten litter.
