Week 1 blind runs, and week 72 "who cares we over gear it all we don't need to do mecha...wait, why did we wipe?" runs are practically the same. So you get it on both ends
I'm super excited if only for the music. In fact, it's one the main reasons I resubbed.
Regardless of whether you like or dislike Nier: Automata, you cannot argue that they've given the game special treatment by making the collaboration a (permanent?) alliance raid instance - to my knowledge no other non-FF collaboration has had this privilege. It either speaks of a large fan demand for this collaboration or that Nier: Automata is highly regarded by some in the FFXIV team.
Other collaborations might have had some unique items or gear but designing an entire raid around a collaboration is no small undertaking (just the music production alone) and the effort put in for a title that's was not even originally tied to FF is incredible.
For better or worse, I'm looking forward to it!
I can't get no! Satisfaction.
I'm with you on this. I don't have an issue with crossovers in general, but everything else so far has been small-scale and self-contained. It takes the crossover element (Yokai, Rathalos, etc.) and creates a version of it that is part of the world of FFXIV.No thank you. I heard it's a direct sequel to the ending of one of the games? How is this relevant to FF again? How does this not leave people playing an MMO in another game series NOT out in the cold who haven't played it??
And I hope to the Twelve it doesn't explain anything lore related. I'd rather the lore of FFXIV get explained by...yanno...FFXIV.
I haven't played Yoko Taro's other games, but from what people have said here and from how he acts in interviews (unless his stage persona is very at-odds with his actual approach to things), I feel like this might be a case of him taking FFXIV and making it part of the world of his game.
Meanwhile, Banri Oda is quietly sobbing in a corner...
If he is trying to integrate FFXIV into his actual story rather than creating a disconnected "Eorzean version" of it, I'm very wary about what this will do to the lore, particularly as I understand that would put the story in the same reality as our Earth - and I really dislike that prospect. I'd much rather it stays in its own fantasy universe with its own laws-of-physics and cosmology.
Even if it's not officially connected, people are going to theorise that it is.
I'm not looking forward to this at all.
Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. I hope so. But for now, I'm dreading it.
Also, it just feels wrong for a non-FF game to get such a starring role here, taking up an entire alliance raid (an ongoing core gameplay mode) rather than a temporary special event - it's a bigger feature than several actual Final Fantasy crossovers have had. What's so special about this one game to get this treatment? Or does it mean we'll have more crossovers like this in future, turning FFXIV from its own thing into a patchwork of bits from other stories? I realise that's what it's already doing with other FF games, but at least there are boundaries and a theme to doing that.
There's no way the raid is even canon, so I don't see why I would want to even do it from a storyline perspective. I also don't really invest in raids for the loot, so I'll pass.
Good thing I'm a cutscene skipper that doesn't care about lore or canon, so I can just look forward to a fun raid, glams and gear upgrades![]()
Yes Please.
I always love new Content to play, and I love Collabs.
Plus new Glamour Peices are always fun, gives me something on the side to do as I wait for more FFXIV MSQ.
-=Shadowbringer Spoiler Warning=-
On the whole is it cannon is it not lore stuff:
Besides some sort of easy "another dimension" lore excuse (which is basically an endless well of "I can do what I want" lol...), wonder if perhaps these are ruins / fragments of a long ancient ago time. We see the city in the final zone of shadowbringers, with those people who have the ability of creation magic and all that fun- wonder if there were any "Garlean"-like races in that time which would give Emet inspiration to make the Garleans in the first place. An ancient technology based civilization that is without magic, like Garleans. Lore perhaps even to that the magic gifted pushed and conquered the technology based civilization, leading to some connection to the deep bell that tolled for those with creation magic. Alternatively on that vein these could even be creations like the Geth from Mass Effect, with a similar sort of relationship (so still keeping that source of the bell theory, which of course is always a fun and popular concept.. that relation of creator and master, AI, student and teacher). Just wild speculation but a thought on how they might tie in the two universes.
Will be interesting to see what they do with it, and of course a very new visual style- this realistic(ish) technology visual.
It is canon, and is in the shadowbringers story already.
the "spoiler" zone at the end, talks of the robots built, and is where this plot will be going.
its the same general idea.
the whole, end of a "spoiler", causing the left over robots.
this isnt the actual nier game lore, locations, and characters.
this is ffxiv lore, reskinned to look like nier.
you could use new names, and comepltely different robot designs, and its still canon.
the difference being the blatant nier skin for fan service.

It's something that is happening in FFXIV, an FF game. The same way you don't have to know every backstory of whatever story you're actually experiencing in the game. How does this not leave people playing an MMO in another game series NOT out in the cold who haven't played it??If it does, it will be, as it will be happening in FFXIV the same way every other regular quest in the game (or it should as it's a raid, don't think they're going to pull it out like Garo). The connection to Nier is a meta thing, not something the story itself has to account for unless it wants to.And I hope to the Twelve it doesn't explain anything lore related. I'd rather the lore of FFXIV get explained by...yanno...FFXIV.
Thanks for articulating a lot of thoughts I've been having having on this, something really sits ill with me with a differant game series getting such a prominent role in 14. From what I can see it doesn't look like there been much interest in actually integrating this into 14 and more just about appealing to Nier players and trying to push Nier.
