I do not believe that will be even remotely possible, even when they introduce chocobos as 'makeshift party memebers' in 2.0. Once again I do not remember where exactly but they did mention that they were not going to let the additional mount partake in the secondary mechanics that your bird will have
then the goobbue we're going to ride is the weak one :O

I liked the part where they said because I'm in the group dislikes this daft 'mob mounts' idea, I'm crippled by years of playing Final Fantasy XI. My whole experience with that game was two occasions thinking how nice it'd be to get involved with such an amazing-looking world, only to be completely put off by how utterly, utterly limited the character creation was.Yes really, no one enjoyed FFXI, as Cichy basically stated!Wow, really? You gotta understand this is the battered housewife club that has been mentally abused by years of only playing XI. All they want is XI again and if anything is outside the box of where XI was it's unacceptable for them. Funny this is that SE seems to be trying to move on but they cant.

Yeah...that's basically how it works -- If you dislike something it's because you liked Final Fantasy XI in some way most likely, you'll notice that with people who hated the MMO.I liked the part where they said because I'm in the group dislikes this daft 'mob mounts' idea, I'm crippled by years of playing Final Fantasy XI. My whole experience with that game was two times thinking how nice it'd be to get involved with such an amazing looking world then getting turned off by how utterly, utterly limited the character creation was.
We all know they're throwing this in because it's the "thanks for playing during 1.x" that Yoshida stated on his live letter, yet somehow people aren't allowed to dislike something.

My point wasnt that no one enjoyed it. I played XI for 6 years personally and had alot of fun. The point is that in XI SE attitude was that they were always right and we were always wrong. Therefore, whatever was in XI was done correctly and it can be never surpassed or deviated from.I liked the part where they said because I'm in the group dislikes this daft 'mob mounts' idea, I'm crippled by years of playing Final Fantasy XI. That's typical developer mentality though. Even Blizzard is like that outside of PvP where they bend over for their players. My point wasnt that no one enjoyed it. Wow, people can get so personally hurt over a video game...![]()

Well... This thread is certainly a read of very different proportions... all 38 pages of it.
The fact that the mods have had to come in twice proves that people are pretty passionate about this topic.
Personally, while I think it's interesting that the devs are giving the choice of extra mounts, I must admit that the Goobbue is definitely something strange to see a player riding on. I am, honestly, not interested in them (I happen to not like the way they look) and will not ride them (unless obligated to by a quest.)
I like choices and things, myself, so I hope that other things come down the shoot as well such as Chocobo colors and what-not. And, shoot, if I had a radio button-esque choice, I would hand pick having a "Guardian of the Grove" as a mount (they do have that flat part at the crest of their heads, after all) but I'm sure there would be a large number of complaints because of the intense strain those creatures put on people's graphics cards or something of that nature. Being a Twin Adder from Gridania, that type of mount would suit my character's personality and everything, looking at it from a lore prospective anyway.
Either way, I think it's fine to have mounts of different varieties, but I think that there should be types of mounts for "both sides of the fence" so to speak. There are people who are really jovial and love humorous additions to the game and then there are other players who want a more "serious" (and I use this term loosely to describe people who aren't fond of "joke" novelty items all of the time and want something different, but story related at the same time, if that makes sense) type of mount. True, there are Chocobos and there will be Goobbues, which, I guess, balances that sort of thing out, but for each "Funny-looking" mount, there should be an "elegant-looking" mount to fit other people's personalities as well.
And I hear you all who say that there shouldn't be 50 different types of mounts in the game, but keep in mind that players like choices, the more choices players have the more freedom they feel is available. I'm not telling anyone to swallow their opinions in any fashion, but I feel that the devs could meet everyone at a nice middle-ground. Implement extra mounts, but don't go absolutely crazy with them. If, at any point, we end up with 100 different in-game mounts, then I think everyone will probably agree that things might have gone a little awry.
Well... "Common" sense isn't all that common anymore, now is it?
False. Sloths, Elephants, Rhinos & Hedgehogs can not jump. I totally agree with no MJ Lalafells though ^_^
ALso, I hope the Ahriman picks us up by the shoulders and flies around carrying us.![]()
