[Suggestion] Casual Dueling

I would be strongly against this. There is nothing more annoying in an MMO than having some jerk chase you around spamming a dueling request at you...

Some MMOs have had to resort to a setting to auto-decline these...

Thank goodness FFXIV limits dueling to a specific location.

I have to agree with this. The few times I go to the wolves den to have a match with a friend or such, I've had annoying people follow me around in the dieling area spamming myself and my friend 1v1 requests, even when we ask them to stop. I've had the same thing happen when I go into the triple triad battle hall with people spamming me non stop when I'm just trying to interact with an NPC.

Keep it where it is currently.

I'm sure this would need to be unlocked in some way like literally everything else in this game. You can't even do Triple Triad without unlocking it first and being in a designated area. People can request melds from you and that's not able to be turned off, but do you see people chasing each other around spamming meld requests constantly? People can trade anyone not on a free trial, but people don't ever spam that randomly either, especially now that you can't trade people who are casting anymore (people used to spam trades to cancel people's TPs). People have gotten banned for long periods of time for spam trading, since it's considered harassment. Not to mention I am sure they would give you the option to enable or disable duel requests like nearly every other MMO with them. If all else fails, just turn on busy mode, anyways.

Basically, the point is, if someone did this then you just report them like anyone else spamming literally anything else in the game. It can be done with more than just a duel request. But people aren't jackasses by default, and it's pretty immature to assume that they will be in lieu of possibly adding more meaningful content to the game for some people.

ESO sadly added 1v1 duels as well. As expected, they happen constantly in area's people need to move through / go to / etc so cause a lot of graphical clutter throughout towns. Not only that, they did also have to add in the 'auto decline' option because as expected... ppl would spam everyone with duel request's - you couldn't port into a city and get to the shops without having to spam click "decline" from ppl spamming duel request's.

And yes, when the auto-decline happened... some resort to being offensive and rude in general/zone chat about it.

To those who say "just block them!" - the block list is of limited size, so depending on just how many ppl end up being jerks... you might have a filled block list, especially if you also block gil selling bots (I do, then clear the block list every 3-4 months).

And to the "Oh noes, something shouldn't be added because you don't like it!" person... I reverse that and say - why should this be added just because you like it? I admit I've always rolled my eyes at this type of argument... because it applies equally to both sides, yet the ppl who push this nonsense never seem to see that fact.

In regards to both of these posts: No.

It's not the same. You could, assumedly, opt out of this content. It's like saying, "I don't like that someone might be able to spam me with trade/meld/FC requests, don't add the function" because it is actually the same thing, but then on top of that also having the option available to never even see it while simultaneously complaining about it. There is no parallel.

If it's like every other PVP feature, you'd need to do a quest to unlock it even (you need to do one to unlock the Wolves' Den dueling ring). It would be physically impossible for anyone to even send you a duel request unless you went out of your way to unlock it.

This is not the way anyone should be dealing with it.
Don't want duel? Set "Busy". Same effect for trade requests.
Got harassed for not doing PVP? Report, blacklist.

We should not all be punished over a minority of bad players. It's the same as restricting Chat function for only one place because some players harass other players. Not the right way to deal with it.

I think casual dueling should only be prohibited inside city. All other maps should be able to casual dueling. Think of all the amazing cenarios for a fight? And on top of that, players that don't want duel or get busy status can stay in city.

Just keep working on your fancy sig while we discuss features that could be added to the game...

But this could of worked pre 4.0 but now they want PVP to be different skills and hotbars. Quite annoying and took the fun out of it for me. They would have to add the old system back

Not sure I'm up for anywhere anytime dueling. Anyone that has played WoW knows what the outside of Orgrimar is like and outside Stormwind? Personally I always hated the lag as soon as you stepped out because of the duelists and folks watching. Just my Opinion.

Saying that more Arena type places like wolves den could be cool maybe one in each major city. Ul'dah and Ishgard already have one according to lore.
