Don't you just love antagonists that should be logically killed as soon as possible but you can't because the writers won't let you?

Asahi was horrible, sure, though it would have looked very bad on Doma's part if they executed a diplomat right then and there. The attempt at forging peace between Doma and Garlemald was a genuine one - Asahi was simply a compromised element. I did find myself disappointed that he was so unhinged, though. Still, we got Maxima out of it all so hopefully something better will come out of him.
It wouldn't be hard to make it look like an accident. He willingly challenges those Rhino Beetle, all we gotta do is feed his body to one of the Beetles and the Empire wont be able to determine a proper cause of death. Their supposed ambassador for peace is promising a "reckoning" anyway so there's no reason let them play their game anymore.Asahi was horrible, sure, though it would have looked very bad on Doma's part if they executed a diplomat right then and there. The Empire itself was unaware of his deception, though. Varis wasn't pleased when he was given the news that Asahi's presence was but another Ascian scheme at play. Sure, the Domans could have orchestrated his demise and passed it off as an 'accident' but then they'd have no high ground to stand on in the future if someone played the same trick on them in the future. Their hands were tied. I'd also note that there was the additional complication of the prisoner exchange to deal with. If Asahi was slain right then and there, it very likely would not have gone through. It wouldn't be hard to make it look like an accident. Why would Doma need the high ground if the Empire tries another false-flag operation to start another war? If Asahi was fed to the beasts right then and there, then the Ascian plot would have been thwarted. Asahi couldn't even be bothered to keep up the ruse, so why should we cooperate with that ruse any further? The Empire itself was unaware of his deception, though. I think the issue is that even if Asahi met with an actual genuine accident, Garlemald would accuse us of foul play - and that's likely to be the entire plan from the start. It's why Asahi taunts us with the fact that of course we shouldn't trust him as far as we could throw him, but you wouldn't dare harm an ambassador, would you? And no, we won't because we know it would be a massive diplomatic blunder - and right when the Domans are hoping to get their people back safely, if I remember right. Why would Doma need the high ground if the Empire tries another false-flag operation to start another war? So either we let Asahi go about his scheme and risk not-thwarting whatever he has planned, or we start an international incident and the Garleans (via Elidibus's scheming) can point their finger at us and say "look, they shot first! They killed our ambassador and ruined the peace deal we offered them!"

But they started an international incident anyway because their ambassador threatened Doma with a "reckoning" and then attempted a false flag operation to start a war. Who cares about Garlemald accusing Doma of foul play if they are just going to attack Doma over any excuse anyway? Their peace offer was made in bad faith and it was obvious within the first few minutes so it doesn't matter what Garlemald thinks, they'll invade whenever they please, but we don't have to let their rabid ambassador run around Doma committing what is effectively terrorism.I think the issue is that even if Asahi met with an actual genuine accident, Garlemald would accuse us of foul play - and that's likely to be the entire plan from the start. If I could control my WoL, I would have eliminated Asahi the moment he exposed his ruse, it was obvious the consequences would be no different then letting Asahi go.
