That post hasn't been relevant since ARR, where endgame was still technically doable on classes and certain open-world stuff could even technically be a tiny bit easier, situationally, on a few classes over their job equivalents due to cross-class skills.

They took the money off me u made selling yourself as a common whore at the quicksand in balmung, but it gets worse cause I ended up in the very bottom of the 7th hell lahabrea mentioned in the pretorium and I need u to cast a more powerful raise to get me back to gridania, I need a raise that only comes from having a job crystal.

So please my son quit accept my gift of taking away your job crystal pain, put on a sch or whm job crystal and raise me, not an astro one though cause that job sucks compared to what it was in SB, do this my son, do it now you beautiful bastard, it sucks here in hell cause I get triple dps que times and only duty I can seem to get in is copperbell mines, please son use a sch or whm job crystal and raise you dear old dad, o can't take much more of copperbell and the wait to que in.

Considering the versatility was removed when cross class skills were abolished in 4.0, yeah.... It's no longer a valid reason.

I can guarentee if you were in any type of group content, you still would have been kicked prior to 4.0

My character is a conjurer but they're not interested in becoming a white mage because of something that happened in their childhood. Is it okay if I just play as my class instead? I'll miss out on a few abilities but I should be able to heal stuff, right?

The ARR site says that classes are for people who want more flexibility in their playstyle. So they should be a valid option too? Instead of getting the job crystal.
